Is Your Home Fire and Carbon-Monoxide Safe? *Giveaway*

After a short heat wave here in Southern California, I’ve been waking up to cooler, overcast mornings only to end the day with brisk, chilly evenings. I purchased my first holiday coffee drink this morning and by 7pm, it’s already dark. It’s Fall, and in just a few weeks, Daylight Savings will end and our days will get even shorter.

On November 6th, those states that participate in Daylight Savings will turn their clocks back one hour. This is also the perfect time to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in your home. I know I don’t check these life-saving devices often enough so I’ll be switching out my batteries when I turn my clocks back.

Through the end of the month, Energizer and the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) are asking families to keep their kids safe at home by changing the batteries when it’s time to change the clocks back. If you join the Energizer Bunny Brigade on Facebook, you’ll have an opportunity to win free smoke alarms and batteries or the grand prize of a $5,000 Fire Safety Home Makeover. Simply join the Energizer Bunny Brigade and pledge to change your smoke detector battery on November 6th, make a fire escape plan, and spread the word about the importance of this issue.

Of note, in some communities, fire departments have the means to distribute free batteries to those in need because of how important it is to have a working smoke and carbon monoxide detector.
