How to Support Giving Tuesday

Posted by Caryn Bailey 1 Comment

We put away our Halloween costumes and immediately found ourselves immersed in the holidays. My daughter immediately got to work decorating for the season while my son made headway on his wish list. The season is admittedly busy, but every year, we make a concerted effort to give back in some way. As a Girl Scout, my daughter is participating in a food drive, amongst other charitable acts. And every year, we purchase brand new toys that we give to children in need. In the spirit of giving, we will also be participating once again in Giving Tuesday. Celebrated each year after Thanksgiving, the annual global day of giving seeks to give back to the most vulnerable.

This post is sponsored in collaboration with The National Children’s Cancer Society.

Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday was dreamed up by the team at Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact and 92nd Street Y to bring communities and organizations together for the sole purpose of giving back. During that year, over $300 million was raised online to benefit a broad range of organizations. Additionally, the movement inspired people to volunteer their time and donate food, clothing, and acts of kindness.

Now in its 6th year, Giving Tuesday is celebrated each year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. The movement celebrates and supports philanthropy with yearly events and partnerships and helps support organizations such as The National Children’s Cancer Society (NCCS). #GivingTuesday seeks to “transform how people think about, talk about, and participate in the giving season.” The goal is to inspire people to take action in their communities and to support those charities and causes they believe in.

The National Children’s Cancer Society (NCCS)

Every year, approximately 15,000 kids are diagnosed with cancer. As a parent, I cannot imagine the financial and emotional strain of walking through such a significant illness with a child. The NCCS is a not-for-profit organization that supports families navigating their way through the daunting world of childhood cancer and survivorship. With over 30 years of experience serving more than 43,000 children, the organization’s “no matter what” approach helps inspire families to stay strong, stay positive and stay together.

Hands

The NCCS is a master navigator of this world, helping families get where they need to be to give them hope, and to give their children the best possible shot at survival. The organization helps fund travel for treatment through its Transportation Assistance Fund and awards college scholarships to survivors through its Beyond the Cure Ambassador Scholarship Program. The NCCS has distributed nearly $66 million dollars to help families battling childhood cancer.

In honor of Giving Tuesday, I encourage you to support the NCCS to help make sure no family has to face childhood cancer alone – no matter what! You can learn more about the organization and make a donation at theNCCS.org.
