As a young woman, I always looked for opportunities to get dressed up since I worked in an industry that required a “uniform.” My New York-born-and-raised mother instilled a sense of fashion within me and by the time I began my career, I had quite the collection of on-trend wardrobe staples for those impromptu girls’ nights out. Fast forward 10 years and while my profession doesn’t require me to wear a uniform, I also have no regular need for fancy suits and black heels so I don’t shop as often as I used to. However, I still enjoy getting dressed up and since I’ll have a rare night out this New Year’s Eve, I thought I’d celebrate with a brand new outfit.
Earlier this summer, I found my new favorite pair of jeans at my local Walmart and have thus began browsing the women’s apparel section whenever I’m in-store for groceries and necessities. Just last week, I found this adorable Short Sleeve Cable Knit Sweater Dress I decided would be the perfect staple for my New Year’s Eve Outfit. While technically a “Juniors” wardrobe piece, I found the dress in both the Women’s and Junior’s section at my local Walmart in a variety of colors. Since Black is my go-to color for evenings out, I decided to purchase the dress and then accessorize it with silver accents.
The dress includes a coordinating scarf which means you can wear it several ways to maximize its use as a fashion piece. I decided to pair the dress with leggings but you could easily wear tights or even skinny jeans, depending on the look you’re aspiring towards. The cable knit fabric is warm enough for a winter evening, particularly if you opt to wear the scarf and pair it with leggings. The knit detailing is one of the features that really makes the dress stand out and ideal for even upscale evenings out. I should mention that the dress may be a bit short for taller women, but since I definitely lack in the height department, I actually found the length to be perfect. This dress retails in-store for $14.88 but you can purchase it online for just $10!
One of the trends I continue to see displayed in magazines is the use of chain belts. I picked up this ultra-stylish Sculpted Oval Chain Belt for just $8 at my local Walmart, which compliments my dress nicely. It is available in several sizes and the chain link closure allows for movement even within the size you select. If you plan to wear this belt with a knit fabric, use caution when putting it on to avoid snagging the dress.
Since we’re in the middle of winter, you’ll likely want to pair this dress with leggings. I picked up Faded Glory’s knit leggings in black for just $6.94 ($4.00 online). Leggings are a wardrobe staple so having a few of these on-hand in a variety of colors will help maximize the pieces in your closet while helping you stay stylishly warm.
To complete my outfit, I found a beautiful Silver Tone Infinity Necklace, featuring a crystal glass stone for just $4.88. The chain design mirrors the one on my belt which adds continuity to the outfit. The crystal glass stone sits in the center of the necklace and as a whole, this piece adds a classy, elegant look to the entire outfit.
I opted to wear fancy black heels with this outfit since I’ll be using it for an evening out this New Year’s, but tall black boots would also make a fancy finish to this outfit. I also found this gorgeous heart rhinestone wallet where I’m going to store my essentials in place of a purse. The wallet features several places to house credit cards, identification, money, and other thin items and secures nicely with an adorable heart locket closure. This wallet is only available in-stores and retails for just $10.
For just under $35 (plus tax and not including the purse), I was able to put together an entire New Year’s Eve outfit that will make a statement! Each of these pieces are also versatile enough to be worn separately for other occasions which means you’ll have lasting wear out of these items.
