Video games are all the rage with children and with Nintendo’s dual-screen handheld game console, DS, toting them has never been more convenient. Some may argue that video games may not be as beneficial for development as other types of play. I beg to differ. I think video games, when carefully selected for age and gender, can teach children skills such as problem solving, trial and error, perseverance, and collaboration. Pretend play, in particular, can facilitate the early development of skills such as language and communication, social, and motor skills.
SouthPeak Games just released My Baby Girl and My Baby Boy for Nintendo DS. This is the virtual doll of the 21st century! The focus of these games is on pretend play and life simulation as opposed to competition. Children start by choosing a name, ethnicity (so PC!), and eye-color for their baby. Then watch as baby smiles for the first time, walks for the first time, and grows up right before your child’s eyes (do they have a teen version? : ) Your child will be able to help nurture this baby with simple tasks like changing a diaper and feeding a baby from a bottle (lactivists may protest). If your child gets “stuck” he/she can elicit help from a pediatrician. As the baby achieves developmental milestones, new age-appropriate activities become unlocked. I tried this out and absolutely love it for it’s educational value. This would be a perfect gift for my BF’s three little girls who adore dolls!
My Baby retails for $30.00 and is available now!

I think it’s cute. My girls would love it. It may not be as educational as it should be, but they could still learn something.
I do actually LOVE this My Baby Game, as I think it’s so valuable in teaching little ones about child and baby care, but in a fun way.
I think thgis looks like a great game.. I do think it has eductional benefits, more so then playing pretent with a doll! I like that you can customize your baby. and I cant think of anything I dont like.
I like the idea as it does teach the children how a baby develops.
It looks cute, but not very educational. My 10 year old would love it.
My daughter would love this game…it is cute.
I think it is a learning experience. My daughter would love it.
looks cute
I like that it teaches children that responsibilities come along with children, but it is still a fun game. It is a win/win situation.
i like that is does teach . yes
I see as more of a fun game but with a little bit of a educational value. I think my daughter would learn more about babies and being kind to them. I can’t think of any negative things to say about the game.
my six year old would love this game!
I think it’s cute and fun…I’d like to play! It helps somewhat understand the challenges of parenthood.
this is a great idea
I think it has some educational value while be a lot of fun for kids. I know my DD would love it!
This sounds like a cute game, I feel it does teach.
love that it teaches about children
I think games like My Baby are a fun and easy way to view some of the toughest responsibilities out there. It may have *some* real-life educational information about care taking, but it’s definitely not something to take too seriously in a real life situation.
My daughter would love this. I think it does teach responsibility.
I think the game would show the children a great way to take caRE OF A BABY…
It has some educational value. I like the game because it is a good clean game that is rated E.
SURE IT’S EDUCATIONAL. I DON’T LIKE THAT IT IS SO EXPENSIVE. IT LOOKS FUN, THOUGH.
I think this is a great game especially for families who are expecting a new member in the family. It’s another way of getting kids ready for new members.
This game is unique b/c it actually teaches Child Development and understanding. My daughter would love this game !
I don’t know about educational value, but it looks like a lot of fun!

It gives kids a chance to know some of the things a baby needs
I love it! sure beats carrying around a doll & trying to believe it’s real…
…I just wonder if cleaning up after a ‘finger pain’ eppisode is included?? lol
I think it’d be great for my daughter – it teaches and is educational.
The downside to this is that this is not a real baby, and your child can leave it laying around. This conditions the child to think the same of real babies as it does with the electronic game having adverse affects–not teaching responsibility.
i want to win
I like that it teaches children that responsibilities
I think it is a learning experience but it also looks like a lot of fun.
my son would love it, i think its a little educational.
I Think it is very fun and throws some educational material in there as well!

It’s really cute. Like almost any toy, I think it probably has educational value.
Wow, this looks like such a fun and engaging game. I think, if used correctly it could ehibit many educational benefits as well. I’d love to give it a chance!

I think this would be great for my little sister as a gift and she would learn how to care for a baby.
my grandson would love this!!!!
Cute teaching game
I think it’s educational. All of my kids played a lot of video games. They all graduated at the top of their classes. Now I’d like these sort of things for my granddaughters-especially as they fly around a lot.
it is cute and may teach responsibility.
I like that it’s not too teachy/preachy. There is a learning component but it’s not too dry or boring.
I love teaching things for the grand children. This would be great- and fun!
I have a sister that is MUCH younger than me..and she’s always wanting to babysit! I’d love this for her to play with it before this baby comes so maybe she’ll learn more! I think it would teach her more about what its REALLY like!
Thanks!!!
i’m following you on twitter
I think the My Baby DS game is educational because it helps instill the building blocks for kids to be kind and caring towards their little siblings or if they decide to be babysitters at an older age, it helps them to practice being responsible and make wise choices. And it looks like a lot of fun for my daughter!
Thanks for the giveaway!

I think it has some educational value: learning responsibilities and taking care of something. It looks like a cute game. Nothing to dislike about it unless it has really annoying music or something 🙂
Haha, I’m not sure about educational value, but I had fun changing that diaper! I think it’ll be good for kids who like the animal care games. This one makes them babies and that’s pretty cool. I think I’d even enjoy playing the game!
Does it wake you up in the middle of the night?
I like it. Teaches the kid real responsibilities.
I think it will make kids think twice before having kids and it is very cute. Thanks for the chance to win.
I think it’s cute! My daughter loves playing with dolls and I know she would enjoy this. Thank you!
looks like a good game
I think it definitely has educational value . . . sparking curiosity, creativity, and responsibility, as well as potentially instilling self-confidence. I like that it’s a noncompetitive environment too!
nice!
I don’t know if it has educational value but I think it’s very entertaining and caters to a little girl’s mothering instincts. My 8 y/o daughter has been really into baby dolls and baby everything ever since my son was born in April. She wants one of these very much.
It looks like a great game.
i think it teaches kids some skills and to care for something! it looks very cute!
Anything that emphasizes the responsibility that comes with having children is educational. I think it is great…especially how you can customize the baby. Thanks for the great giveaway.
I think it’s a really cute game but I doubt that it could be categorized as educational. I think it’s just entertaining and perhaps increases empathy in some way.

Sratch that, I was going to go vote for you and it said it was over, sorry!
I think the My Baby Game is great. It would be beneficial in teaching young children about babies.
My girls really want this game. I don’t really think it’s educational but I still like it. I think they would have fun playing it.
that is a great idea 🙂
I like how the game shows how the baby grows and different stages it goes through and if the child needs help they ask the peditrician.
My Baby Game looks fun:)
I think its totally cute.
That’s a cute game. I guess it’s kind of educational. The player has to nurture and care for the baby which can teach responsibility. It’s non-vioelent, so I really like that as well.
I think it is a good start but there is so much more they could be taught. Where is the 3am wake up call and countless sleepless nights. Guess that would be good for the teen rated game
It’s very cute 🙂
My kids would love it.

I think it looks like a lot of fun but has little educational value.
My daughter would just love this game for her Nintendo DS! It looks like so much fun. I think she’d have fun learning about all the different stages of a baby’s development. What a wonderful game!
My Baby looks very interesting. I think it has great educational value.
I think it’s pretty educational. What little kid knows that babies will pee and poop when a diaper is off?!
