Theodor Seuss Geisel, aka as Dr. Seuss, has been iconic in transforming children’s literature. The fact that only 50 words exist in Green Eggs and Ham demonstrates his brilliance. We introduced my three year old son to the books last year and he finds them silly and enjoyable. I know that beyond the fact that they’re entertaining, his books are helping my son learn about words, phonics, and rhyming in preparation for reading.
Next week, we celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday with a variety of activities including a 2 hour marathon on PBS Kids featuring two brand new episodes of The Cat In The Hat Knows A Lot About That and national reading celebrations. The show, which launched in September, is among the top five programs for children ages 2-5. The Cat In The Hat Knows A Lot About That fosters a child’s natural curiosity and seeks to instill a love of exploration through adventures and problem solving. The two new episodes include “Incredible Journey/Bamboozled,” where the Cat introduces Nick and Sally to two incredible creatures, Salmon Sam and Zhu Zhu the panda, and “Teeny Weeny Adventure/I See Seeds,” in which the Cat takes Nick and Sally on two “tiny” adventures. Throughout the week, there will be a number of celebrations across the country including a free Dr. Seuss storytime at Target stores across the country. Kidspace Children’s Museum will host special story times, crafts, and games inspired by Dr. Seuss. Lakeshore Learning Stores will host hourly story times, crafts, and games.

My family and I love Dr. Seuss books. We participated in the Target storytime Saturday. The boys enjoyed it very much and they met new friends!
Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!!!
We did too! It was tons of fun! : )
We went to the Target even too. We thought it was very well done. We then came home and made Oobleck!
