Gimme a Break…A Breakfast Break!

Posted by Caryn Bailey 1 Comment

Do you find yourself constantly on the go?  Are your mornings stressful trying to get everyone up out of bed and ready for the day ahead?  Do you forget to eat breakfast or omit it altogether because of time constraints?

We all know how hectic mornings can be.  I like to sleep until the last second.  You can ask hubby just how many times I hit the snooze button before finally rolling out of bed.  I make it a point to eat breakfast because it is the most important meal of the day.  Check out this article on WebMD.  Children who miss breakfast may suffer from numerous physical, intellectual, and behavioral problems.  Obesity is becoming an epidemic along with it’s counterpart, Type II Diabetes.  Children who do not eat breakfast are more likely to be obese.  Why?  Because they tend to consume more calories at the next meal or snack in between meals.
Contrary to what you may think, breakfast does not have to be an elaborate 3 course meal (although that’s nice every now and then hubby!).    Eating a bowl of whole grain cereal with milk will suffice.
Breakfast Breaks Lucky Charms Pack
Introducing Breakfast BREAKS…a “grab n go” breakfast solution.  East Side Entrees originally developed Breakfast BREAKS for school foodservice programs to provide a healthy breakfast option…one that is low in sugar and fat and high in vitamins and minerals.  Eight out of the fourteen varieties contain less than 20% calories from fat, less than 5% from saturated fat, less than 25 grams of sugar and essential vitamins and minerals.  When whole milk is added, the meal provides 25% or more of the recommended levels of key nutrients children need every day.
Children will love the fact that the meal contains well-known brands…brands they probably already eat.  Parents will love the ease and convenience of having a meal, including a spoon, napkin, and moist towlette, in one package.
So what’s in the package?
A serving of whole grain cereal, a serving of 100% fruit juice, and a grain/bread (cereal bar or crackers).
Where can I find Breakfast BREAKS?
If you go on their website, you can search by zip code or city and state.  When I performed a local search Stater Bros. Market was the only store that showed up as carrying the product.
How much does one package cost?
I was unable to find information regarding cost on the website.  I did perform a search and found one site which quoted $2.49-$2.69 per package.
What varieties are currently being offered?
According to their site, Breakfast BREAKS will come in the following varities:
–Cheerios, Raisins, and 100% Apple Juice
–Honey Nut Cheerios, Apple Cinnamon Fruit & Grain Bar, and 100% Apple Juice
-Lucky Charms, Honey Graham Crakers, and 100% Apple Juice
–Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Strawberry Fruit & Grain Bar, and 100% Apple Juice
Breakfast BREAKS is a unique and creative way to ensure that children eat breakfast.  I would love to see a protein added since the breakfasts seem to contain a significant amount of sugar.  I would also like the option of adding a single serve milk that will keep at room temperature.
While stay at home moms may not see a need for the convenience of Breakfast BREAKS, I as a working mom think the product is fab.  Anything to help me get just a few more minutes of beauty sleep!
I’d like to thank Mom Central for providing the samples!

This looks like a good idea for moms-on-the-go! It might not be the best option for every day, but it certainly would be helpful on extra busy days when there isn’t time for a leisurely breakfast.
