There’s something really appealing about the simplicity of black-and-white images.

The theme of the night reminded me in many ways of Old Hollywood…long black dresses…a stunning white carpet…and dogs…both the cute, cuddly ones and the edibles ones.
The El Capitan is always a spectacular venue for a Hollywood premiere, and the night Frankenweenie debuted to it’s very first audience was particularly memorable since Tim Burton, the brilliant and creative director/producer of the 3D stop motion animated film, graced the carpet and after party.
After speaking with the adorable child actors from the film (Robert Capron, Atticus Shaffer and Charlie Tahan), we walked the white carpet, pristinely laid out in front of the El Capitan on Hollywood Boulevard.

As a young girl, I grew up watching many of Winona Ryder’s films countless times with my father including Beetlejuice, Heathers, Edward Scissorhands, Little Women, and many, many more. While I don’t typically get starstruck (after all, I’m an LA native), I found myself in awe of Ryder as she graced the carpet.
If you look at the video, you might recognize a few familiar faces walking the carpet behind her.

After our 5 minutes of fame, we walked into the historic theater to see the film for the first time.

Frankenweenie details the story of Victor, a young boy who unexpectedly loses his beloved dog Sparky. When his science teacher demonstrates an experiment in class, Victor gets the idea to replicate the scenario with his dog, whom he has dug up from his grave. When he successfully brings his dog back to life, his attempts at hiding him are futile, and the whole town learns that “getting a new ‘leash on life’ can be monstrous.” Stay tuned for my full review and interview highlights later this week.

Hollywood premieres are exciting and glamorous, and the after-party is typically a joyous extension and celebration of the film’s debut. We gnoshed, mingled, and the celebrity sightings continued. Of all the actors, actresses, and filmmakers present, it was Elvira that I was most surprised by. She looks as stunning as I remember her. Can you believe she is 61?
