For years after Disney’s Frozen was released in theaters, my kids would have the soundtrack on repeat. They would search YouTube for various iterations of the famed song and sing it acapella in the car. Every movie night was a Frozen movie night. This winter, Walt Disney Animation Studios will release Olaf’s Frozen Adventure ahead of Disney•Pixar’s COCO. My daughter was recently made aware of the new short film and she has a renewed interest in all-things Frozen.
During Disney Social Media Moms Celebration “On The Road”, directors Stevie Wermers and Kevin Deters presented a detailed look at the short film and showed a handful of clips to give us a sense of the story. It is winter in Arendelle, and as the holiday season gets underway, Anna learns from Elsa that there has never been a holiday tradition since the death of their parents. Since it is the first holiday season since the gates were reopened, Anna and Elsa decide to host a celebration for the Kingdom of Arendelle. When the townspeople leave the festivities to enjoy their own family holiday customs, Anna and Elsa realize that they have no family traditions of their own. Positive and ever-hopeful, Olaf, aided by Sven, go on an exciting adventure to find the perfect tradition for Anna and Elsa. As they peruse the kingdom, the pair search for the best traditions for a Christmas that they will remember forever.
Josh Gad, Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, and Jonathan Groff reprise their roles from the original film. Olaf’s Frozen Adventure will debut ahead of Pixar’s Coco on November 22, 2017. The 21-minute film will include four new original songs by Elyssa Samsel and Kate Anderson including That Time of Year.
