Finding Neverland at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts

The story of Peter Pan, the boy who never grows up, has been delighting families since J. M. Barrie first introduced the character in the early 1900’s. Subsequently, Peter Pan has been depicted in numerous animated and live action films, TV series and other creative works. Peter Pan also inspired the semi-biographical film Finding Neverland, which followed the story of J. M. Barrie and his relationship with a family who inspired him to create the character. With numerous Oscar nominations and an Academy Award for musical score, the film was adapted as a stage musical 5 years ago with a 17 month run on Broadway.

This Spring, Broadway.com’s audience choice award for best musical will debut at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts. Finding Neverland will continue it’s national tour March 21st – April 2nd. The original musical was inspired by the film and the play The Man Who Was Peter Pan and stars Billy Harrigan Tighe (Pippin, The Book of Mormon, Wicked) as J. M. Barrie.

 Finding Neverland

Finding Neverland is the poignant story of the relationship between J. M. Barrie, Sylvia Llewely Davies, and her sons George, Jack, Peter and Michael. When they meet, Sylvia has just lost her husband. Barrie develops a strong friendship with the family and becomes a playmate and father figure to the boys. Their imaginative adventures inspire the play Peter Pan. The musical features music and lyrics by Gary Barlow and Eliot Kennedy and choreography by Mia Michaels (So You Think You Can Dance). Visually engaging, this musical warms the hearts of audiences with its story of the power of imagination and validation that you never really have to grow up.
