Finding Nemo 3D Swims Into Theaters

Posted by Caryn Bailey 6 Comments

Less than 2 weeks ago, I sent my son off to elementary school…the first of many coming-of-age milestones we’ll both have to surmount in the next few years.  From the moment a child is born, parents begin a countdown of sorts whereby they raise and prepare their children to enter “the real world.” As I sat watching Finding Nemo 3D for the first time since becoming a parent, I couldn’t help but relate to Marlin, Nemo’s overprotective father, who is so afraid something will happen to his son, that he prevents him from taking risks, even those that are necessary and beneficial such as school.

Finding Nemo 3D

Nearly ten years ago, Finding Nemo won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, was the second highest grossing film of 2003 (the year in which it was released), and is the best selling DVD of all time.  The film has been awarded numerous accolades because of it’s stunning underwater visuals and heartwarming, relatable story. And this today, it is being re-released in 3D for a limited nationwide theatrical run.

Finding Nemo 3D

The story is familiar…Nemo, a young clownfish wants to do…see…explore.  His father, Marlin, has grown fearful of their underwater world, where his wife and children were taken from him.  Nemo’s desire for independence and Marlin’s over-protectiveness clash, resulting in their separation. The film is more than about Marlin’s quest to find his son. It’s about working through his grief so he can help prepare Nemo to become independent enough to eventually care for himself. Filled with wit and heart, Finding Nemo 3D will once again warm the hearts of families as they reconnect with the story and characters.

Finding Nemo 3D

From the moment the film opened, I was immersed in it’s beautiful underwater world, and I thought to myself, this film was made for 3D.  Because I was familiar with the film, I was able to take note of the gorgeous spectrum of oceanic colors, the contrasts within the waters, and the intricate detail of the sea-life.  So much detail and creativity went into the film’s 3D conversion and I suspect that adults and children will find themselves reconnected to the film and it’s characters in a beautiful new way.

Finding Nemo 3D is now in theaters nationwide.

If you happen to live or be traveling in the LA area, you might consider seeing the film at the El Capitan Theatre, which will offer guests the opportunity to experience an interactive exhibit from the Aquarium of the Pacific after the film. Guests will explore a touch tank filled with bamboo sharks, crabs, sea stars and meet a host of real underwater creatures that appear in the film.  Shows run daily, and if you have a “tiny tot” you can enjoy a special screening on Tuesday, September 18th at 10 am which will feature dimmed lighting and reduced sound levels. For more information, visit the El Capitan Theatre.

No compensation was received for this post. I was invited to a media event and travel/accommodations were provided.

I had the movie way before I even thought about kids but now that I have a son who watches it all the time I keep seeing more and more of the story that I can actually connect to. Who would have a thought Disney could make such a great film starring fish that parents can enjoy so much too! I wish he was older so he could watch it in 3D he would enjoy it so much.
