Film Review: Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3 Giveaway

My most memorable and cherished memories are those spent with my family. When my children were born, it was our family, albeit small, that prepared meals and offered some reprieve from the endless sleepless nights. When my father passed away, it was family that flew 2000 miles to care for my children while my mother and I grieved and made the difficult but very necessary preparations. As much as I adore my friendships and enjoy those brief moments of alone time, at the end of the day I am nothing without my family.

Today, Disney released Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3, a film that celebrates the importance of family. Being that this was my first film in the series, I wondered if I (and my children) would be able to follow the plot seamlessly. Fortunately, each film offers a fresh new story and retains the familiarity of it’s beloved characters Papi and Chloe.

In the third installment, talking Chihuahs Papi (voiced by George Lopez) and Chloe (voiced by Odette Annable) and their five pups move into the Langham hotel when their owners get live-in jobs as a landscape designer and sous chef. While there are several sub-plots, the main story focuses on Rosa, the smallest and youngest pup who feels neglected and less special than her siblings. Authentic to Mexican culture and tradition, Papi prepares a quinceañera party for Rosa and helps her find and celebrate her strengths and unique qualities.

Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3 is funny, lighthearted, and heartwarming. I absolutely loved the film’s simple but important messages surrounding family and teamwork, which can be talking points between parents and their children. What’s also unique about the film is the subtle integration of culture. Papi’s advice about taking pride in those things that make you different is something I plan to teach my children at a young age, to help them develop a positive sense of self. It is that resiliency which will help children as they enter a world where they will likely face peer pressure.

Beverly Hills Chihuahua 3 is available on DVD beginning September 18th, 2012.
