Do you sense a theme here?  Our summers are hot here in Southern California, so it’s very likely that many of my posts this week will focus on cooling off and doing everything possible to have the best summer ever!  While smoothies, slushies, and frozen drinks are what we all enjoy chilling out with, its water that is the ideal drink to stay cool and hydrated when it starts to heat up.

As a family, we have committed to reduce our carbon footprint in a variety of ways, some of which include recycling, purchasing local, organic, sustainable foods/products as we are able, and being mindful of our energy/water consumption.  We also installed an Under-Sink Water Filtration System so that we would have increased peace of mind about the tap water we consume.  We gave up plastic water bottles a long time ago, after concerns over BPA and the reality that plastics can take decades or even centuries to decompose.

So what have we replaced our plastic water bottles with?

Glass is heavy and breakable and stainless steel can alter the taste of water and remains the most difficult to clean.

Some of the brand’s unique features include AUTOSEAL, featured on their travel mugs, water bottles, and kids cups, which automatically seals between sips.  Spilled water is easy to clean up…spilled milk or juice? Contigo’s travel mugs, water bottles and kids cups are 100% BPA free and the kids cups are also free from phthalates and PVC.  The one question I do have that isn’t easily found on the site is the source of their materials.

  46. The AUTOSEAL® Aria Stainless Steel Travel Mug (Vacuum Insulated) – 16 oz. caught my eye!! I like the sleek design and just how long it keeps drinks hot. My problem is by the time I get to work my coffee is lukewarm and I like that I could throw the mug in my purse to free up my hands – why have I not heard of this company before!?

  113. I like the idea of becoming more environmentally friendly by using reusable bottles. This is a great way to help people stop wasting plastic bottles. They can be reusable ones and help keep less plastic out the environment.
