Fraggle Rock Spin-Off “Doozers” Debuts on Hulu *Giveaway*

Doozers on Hulu

My father was a huge fan of live action puppet series, which likely explains my nostalgic affection for characters from The Muppet Show and Fraggle Rock.  Jim Henson was the brilliant, creative mind behind many of the leading innovative, children’s educational television programs, and as a parent, I appreciate that the Jim Henson Company continues his legacy by leading in this space.

Doozers

This week, The Jim Henson Company, in partnership with DHX Media, will premiere Doozers, the first Hulu Original for kids.  As soon as I heard this latest news, my mind immediately recalled those evenings I spent watching Fraggle Rock with my father.  If you were a fan of the show, you’ll remember that the Doozers were the smaller green creatures that loved to work and spent their time building towers, bridges, roads, and buildings across Fraggle Rock.  While I was very young when I watched the show with my father, I found the Doozers to be an interesting (and adorable) set of creatures that exhibited incredible work ethic.

Doozers

Geared towards children ages 4 to 7, this Fraggle Rock spin-off introduces The Pod Squad, four “kid” Doozers who love to design, create, and innovate.  Residing in the community of Doozer Creek, The Pod Squad work together to solve problems like designing their own Doozer Derby racing car, flying in a jetpack, and building a giant, life-sized gingerbread house.

Thanks to Klout, my children and I had an opportunity to sit down and watch the very first episode, which depicts the team of friends working together to put on a puppet show. Each episode is just 11 minutes, which I personally think is idea for holding even young children’s attention.  The characters are adorable and serve as good role models for children and the stories are relatable with themes (i.e. problem-solving, teamwork, perserverance) that parents can explore further with their children. The CG animation is vibrant and the music is engaging, making the show an immediate hit with my kids.  In fact, my son is already asking when we can see episode 2.

From the creators of award-winning series like Dinosaur Train and Sid the Science Kid comes the first Hulu Original for Kids.  See Doozers when it premieres on April 25th, 2014.

I like that there are both male and female characters. It’s important for kids to learn that girls can grow up to be workers, too.
