When my husband and I met, over 6 years ago, he’d tease me about always carrying around a plastic water bottle. These days I’ve *mostly* ditched the plastic water bottle habit in favor of my PUR Water Pitcher.
Bottled water poses no benefits over tap water, so it makes sense to filter your tap water if you’re able. I’m not a fan of the taste of straight tap water, particularly here in Southern California where chemicals are required to “treat” the water so it’s drinkable. And traces of pharmaceutical drugs have been found in the drinking water supplies serving more than 51 million Americans. Here are just some of the substances that have been identified in drinking water:
- Hormones: prednisone, prednisolone, progesterone, testosterone and cortisol
- Antibiotics: ciprofloxacin, administered in tablet form to prevent certain infections caused by bacteria, as well as sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim, which are administered intravenously to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections including pneumonia, and urinary tract and intestinal infections
- Antidepressants: fluoxetine, prescribed to treat a variety of conditions, including depression and other mental/mood disorders
- Anti-anxiety medication: meprobamate, a treatment used to relieve nervousness or tension that exceeds stress of everyday life
- Painkillers: ibuprofen and naproxen
I have been using a PUR Water Filtration system for almost a year now and I find the taste to be impeccable (considering I drank bottled water for most of my life). Once it’s filtered (and refrigerated), I don’t taste the metal that is so commonly prominent in our tap water. PUR Water Filtration products reduce unwanted contaminants and pharmaceuticals allowing you to drink your tap water.
For less than $25, you can drink your tap water safely while helping to avoid the plastic waste our country is noteworthy for. A portion of the proceeds from the sales of PUR Water Filtration systems are donated to help fund the Children’s Safe Drinking Water (CSDW) Program. The purchase of one PUR system provides a week’s worth of clean water to a child in the developing world.
