Summer is just days away…can you feel it?  In just one week, the “hurry up and go” mentality that often dominates school days will be replaced with the reprieve of a few extra minutes of sleep and peace. I absolutely love Summer for so many reasons, mainly because I get to spend so much more time with my kids…time that seems to be slipping away each year as they get older. While we have a few trips planned, much of our summer will be spent exploring our city, making lifelong memories, and relishing in the opportunity to take a break from routine.

Dawn Destinations Line

One of the challenges of summer is crafting time to work in the midst of summer break. And as far as me time to go to the spa, grab a coffee, or read a book? I’m going to have to get very creative! Since dreams of “an escape” to an exotic locale or a secluded island aren’t realistic, Dawn brilliantly devised a way for moms to “escape” with their new scents. Dawn Destinations is a brand new line of dishwashing liquid with superior grease-cleaning results and exotic scents destined to take you away! The power of scent is well-documented and I personally have used lavender, vanilla and jasmine to help soothe and calm me when I’m stressed. Dawn Destinations’ new scents include New Zealand Springs, Caribbean Breeze, Mediterranean Lavender, Thai Dragon Fruit, Hawaiian Pineapple, and Fuji Cherry Blossom and I adore how each of them are reminiscent of a particularly locale. I’ve never thought about incorporating scent into my dishwashing routine but I found it to be a very pleasant, rejuvenating experience. I’ve been using New Zealand Springs the past week or so and I find the scent to be refreshing and rejuvenating. Plus, the effectiveness of this highly concentrated detergent means I really only need a few drops to get my hand-wash-only pots and pans clean.

Dawn actually worked with some of the world’s most elite perfumers to develop the new line of scents, which not only work to deliver superior grease-cleaning results, but allow moms a few moments of zen to refocus. I can’t say that I’ve ever thought about a mini-escape to the sink, mostly because I actually don’t mind doing dishes, but for those who simply can’t stand the chore, Dawn Destinations provides for a few moments to simply breathe.

Summer is defined by the proverbial R&R, but for many moms (particularly work-at-home moms), the stress of juggling work, household chores, and making memories that will last a lifetime, can get a bit overwhelming.  When I can’t go to the spa, take a hot bath or get in a few minutes of “me” time, I’m going to use this DIY Aromatherapy Pillow!

Aromatherapy Kit

Thanks to Dawn, they sent me this adorable and easy kit to make my own Aromatherapy Neck/Shoulder Pillow. Despite the fact that is sounds absolutely indulgent, the pillow is easy to put together.  Here is what you’ll need:

  • 1 tube sock
  • 1 mini sewing kit
  • 8-10 ounces of dry rice
  • 15-20 drops of lavender oil
  1. Fill a tube sock with dry rice so that it is approximately 2/3 to 3/4 full
  2. Add 15-20 drops of lavender oil
  3. Carefully sew the sock shut to avoid rice scattered across your house
  4. Microwave and apply pillow as needed to relieve neck and shoulder tension.

DIY Aromatherapy Wrap

This was a VERY easy DIY project and my daughter and I had a lot of fun putting this together.  Since I always like to share my real experience, I thought I’d provide some tips about the process.

The sock I used was LARGE and took about 2/3 of a 32 ounce bag of rice to fill up the sock sufficiently while still leaving sufficient room to position it on my neck and shoulders.

The amount of lavender oil was sufficient and I recommend adding about half the number of drops to the rice when you’ve filled it halfway and then adding the remainder when you’ve added the rest of the rice.

Admittedly, I was a bit nervous about sewing the sock shut, but it was SO easy!  If you use thread in a shade that resembles the color of your sock, you won’t have to worry about how straight the stitches are. Make sure you double the thread and knot the ends well so that you don’t end up with rice all over your house.

Are you ready to Simply Your Summer With Dawn Destinations?  Do you need a mini-escape?  Check out Dawn’s new line of detergents for those mini moments of escape when you aren’t able to take a trip to the spa or the beach.

Win It!  One of you will win a Dawn Destinations Activity Kit which will include th

  • A sock
  • Aromatherapy neck and shoulder pillow recipe/how-to
  • Dawn Destinations Dishwashing Liquid
  • Lavender oil
  • Rice
  • $25 iTunes gift card (for spa music)
