It is a country that spans 3.7 million square miles and boasts over 1.3 billion people. China, known for its rich history, diverse people groups, and bustling economy, is also one of the most bio-diverse countries in the world. Home to a number of extraordinary animals, many are endemic and considered endangered and/or protected.
Disneynature’s Born in China – Real Stories of the Wildlife of China
In the remote wilds of China, where few have traversed, lies the story of a panda bear raising her baby as she explores her independence, a two-year-old snub-nosed monkey, who feels displaced by the arrival of his new baby sister, and a snow leopard facing the harsh reality of raising her two cubs in one of the harshest environments on the planet. Narrated by John Krasinski, Disneynature’s Born In China takes audiences on an intimate adventure filled with danger, excitement and some of the most lush landscapes in the world.
“The film shows an authentic side of nature in China that global audiences haven’t seen before,” remarks director Lu Chuan. To capture this stunning imagery, filmmakers braved freezing temperatures and trekked through dense forests which was both time consuming and physically demanding. The results were well worth the time and challenges the filmmakers faced as they witnessed the intimate interaction of a mother panda and her cub, rarely-seen behaviors of snub-nosed monkeys in the wild, and the birth of a chiru calf.
The cinematography in Born In China is immersive and striking, beautifully complimented by the filmmakers’ ability to tell the story of each of the animal families depicted in the film. Audiences are transported from the frigid mountains of China to the heart of the bamboo forest via the infamous red-crowned cranes, who weave these stories together.
Disneynature’s Born in China debuts in theaters April 21st, 2017. If you see the film during opening week (April 21-27th, 2017), Disneynature, via the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund, will make a contribution to the WWF to help protect wild pandas and snow leopards in China.
In honor of the film’s release, I’m sharing a handful of free Born In China Printables, Coloring Sheets and Activity Pages.
