Travel and change of place impart new vigor to the mind.

– Seneca

Every destination I’ve ventured to has changed me. I can’t help but come away invigorated with a freshened perspective at the sight of  the Scottish Highlands or the numerous shades of blue that make up Maui’s surrounding waters. I’ve been traveling with my kids since they were babies and the memories we’ve shared together are forever imprinted in their hearts.

Chef Robert Irvine

Travel is more than just seeing a place, rather the collective experiences of being immersed within a culture of people, places and things much different than your own. Last week, I had an opportunity to speak with Food Network host and celebrity Chef Robert Irvine about his own travel experiences, how he finds the best hidden gems in a city, and some tips on helping families connect during their vacations.

Family

Chef Irvine has partnered with Transitions to help raise awareness of the importance of healthy vision as both a part of everyday life and while traveling in order to fully enjoy every experience. You might remember that I actually reviewed and currently wear Transitions adaptive lenses.  What I personally like about wearing these particular lenses is the fact that they provide optimal protection from the sun while still allowing me to see the world around me clearly. As the name implies, these adaptive lenses adapt to changing light conditions to enhance vision and keep eyes comfortable in any lighting.

Caprese Salad

Chef Irvine offers a ton of tips on Transitions’ food-centric website including how to turn meals into sightseeing opportunities by trying new foods, exploring restaurants that use local flavors, and eating outdoors to get the best views. He also suggests eating foods like spinach, carrots, nuts, blackberries and grapes which are rich in Vitamins A, C, E, and beta-carotene to protect the health of your eyes.
