I love this time of year because it always seems like the studios wait for late Spring, early Summer to release the most anticipated films. Perfectly timed for Mother’s Day comes a film about a single mom (Eva Mendes), who is too busy working and absorbed in her relationships to focus on her daughter. In an attempt to skip adolescence, Grace’s daughter Ansiedad (Cierra Ramirez) stages her own coming of age story, which of course, doesn’t go exactly as planned. Girl In Progress, which opens in theaters May 11th, is an incredible film about mother-daughter relationships.
Earlier this week, I had the privilege of interviewing some of the talent, including Eva Mendes, Cierra Ramirez, Raini Rodriguez, and director Patricia Riggen. Next week I’ll share some insights and behind-the-scenes information on the film, including my review. I’m excited about the timing of this film, given the fact that it’s a story about the relationship between a mother and her daughter. I hope the film opens up the lines of communication for mothers and daugthers across the country.
