My passion for the arts, specifically musical theater, means that I have a long list of productions I aspire to see. Despite the fact that Broadway is nearly 3,000 miles away, Southern California has it’s own vibrant theater community. This Spring, the Segerstrom Center for the Arts will present Billy Elliot The Musical, based on the 2000 film by the same title.
The musical is a joyous celebration of a boy’s journey to make his dreams come true. When Billy trades his boxing gloves for ballet shoes, he discovers a talent that inspires not only his family, but his community, changing his life forever. The musical has received numerous accolades including ten Tony Awards, ten Drama Desk Awards, and four Laurence Olivier Awards.
Tickets for the musical’s two-week run at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts are now on sale. Guests attending the show can enjoy a variety of pre-show activities one hour before show time, including the following:
Ballet barres will be placed throughout Segerstrom Hall and dancers from the Anaheim Ballet will demonstrate ballet exercises and answer questions from guests.
Posters displayed throughout the lobby will feature basic ballet tutorials on leg positions.
A ballet barre and themed items from the show will be available in the orchestra level lobby for photo opps.
Finding Billy, a moving documentary about the casting process for finding the three original Billys on Broadway will be screened throughout Segerstrom Hall.
