Big City Moms and The Bump Host The Biggest Baby Shower Event in Los Angeles

Posted by Caryn Bailey 14 Comments

On the evening of February 28th, 2012 the city Los Angeles transformed itself into the biggest baby shower for the evening. Held at the Skirball Cultural Center and presented by Big City Moms in partnership with The Bump the biggest baby shower event was the place to be for expectant couples and new parents. With hundreds of baby product vendors, delicious food, yummy mocktails and celebrity sightings, it was a babylicious evening to remember.

The biggest baby shower event was one of a kind event to view and test out all of the hottest trends in baby products and gear for 2012. From the handmade, organic and all natural products up to the hottest and trendiest strollers on the market there were thousands of products to see, touch and feel up close and personal and all in one convenient location. I had a great time representing RockinMama and going from station to station meeting friendly brand representative that were on hand to introduce new products and answer any questions.

One of my favorite products of the evening was Daddy Scrubs which are just that: scrubs for dad! I have had two children by cesarean section and I have another one on the way. One of the ways that I feel more in control of my hospital stay and in the birthing process in general is by having my own pretty scrubs to wear before and after the operation. I LOVE that this option is now available for dads as well. These scrubs are a really neat idea for dad to wear during the birthing process (natural or cesarean section) and yet comfortable enough to wear as jammies after the baby is born. On the back of the top it says “I’m the Daddy” how cute is that? I love it!

Another one of my favorite brands of the evening was The Honest Company founded by the gorgeous Jessica Alba. The Honest Company is dedicated to providing quality baby products that are earth friendly and non-toxic. The Honest Company diapers are 100% non-toxic and made up of almost entirely plant based products and all at a very reasonable price. Even better-the diapers come in really adorable patterns! The Honest Company is offering monthly subscriptions for supreme convenience to new parents. You choose your bundle and then your safe, non-toxic and environmentally safe products are delivered right to your door! No hassling with the crazies at the store, no wasting gas, no headaches-just convenience at an affordable price!

Hands down, my favorite feature of the biggest baby shower event was the educational guest speaker seminars. Guest lecturers included Dr. Alan Greene, Jessica Alba, Christopher Gavigan, Dr. Harvey Karp, Dr. JJ Levenstein, The Guncles, Ali Landry, Samantha Ettus, Katie Vaughan, and Wendy Haldeman. I was fortunate enough to attend the very last seminar of the evening, which was the “meet the experts” and it was amazing. Having the opportunity to listen to experts from their given fields talk and answer questions was truly inspirational. For example, Rachel Sarnoff from Healthy Child, Healthy World said something that has stayed with me ever since. She pointed out how harmful everyday cleaning products we use are to our children. Everyday household cleaning products that we use are emitting thousands of toxic chemicals into the air that our children breathe. She pointed out that we use these products because to us “that’s what clean smells like” particularly because that is what we grew up thinking was the smell of “clean”. Rachel Sarnoff says that she uses vinegar in her home for cleaning all types of surfaces. From the counter to the windows, vinegar is doing the cleaning job in her house. Therefore, her children will grow up with the smell of “clean” as the smell of vinegar. She was able to break the cycle within one generation of what the smell of “clean” is. That to me is astounding.

The biggest baby shower event in Los Angeles was a fabulous evening full of good food, yummy mocktails, games, prizes and tons baby swag. I highly suggest that if you have the opportunity to go and check out this awesome event for yourself-that you do!
The next stop for the biggest baby shower is at Jungle Island in Miami on Monday, April 2, 2012. For more information please log on here.

This looks like it was an amazing event! I can’t believe how far baby products – especially all the non-toxic options – have come in just the four years since I had my own little one! Congrats on your upcoming bundle of joy!

Love the idea of the smell of “clean.” Simple concept and makes a lot of sense.

Have to confess…glad I’m past the baby stuff. But it sounds like a great event.

Wow Desiree! That looks like a REALLY fun event! BTW I am still shocked you’re 7 months pregnant. You look fantastic. I delivered my son at 7 months and looked like an undiscovered creature of the swamplands by then.

The scrubs made me chuckle. My husband wouldn’t be caught dead in those, but I say more power to any daddy that is game for wearing them!

Oh! I cloth diapered my son. Seriously, I can’t say enough good things about that experience. I did it for the health benefits, but I also heard they potty train easier from it. I was shocked because I wasn’t going to start trying to potty training him until he was three. We bought a potty chair just to have when he was 2.5 and one day he just started using it by himself without us telling him to. He totally potty trained himself in one day. Never had an accident. Completely night trained too. It was weird. I still wonder if the cloth diapers were partly to thank for that. If you want the name of other brands that I loved feel free to ask me. I love talking about it.
