My little girl scout kicked off the new year with a self-defense class right before the start of the Girl Scout Cookie season. Some of my daughter’s best memories have been made with her troop…girls who are modeling leadership through incredible experiences like learning about aviation onboard the USS Midway, collecting candy for our military, and becoming an advocate for endangered animals. As a former Girl Scout, I appreciate the organization that teaches girls that they can lead and make a difference in their communities and in the world.
Girl Scouts offers the best leadership development experience for girls in the world.
More than 100 years ago, Juliette Gordon Low conceived an organization that would prepare girls to enter their world with courage, confidence, and character. At 51, and nearly deaf, Low inspired a worldwide movement where girls would, together, embrace their individualist, strength, and intellect. Her initial gathering of 18 girls in Savannah, Georgia, has evolved into a global movement with 2.6 million Girl Scouts across 92 countries.
Girl Scout Cookie Season
If you have visited your local grocery store in the past week or so, you’ll notice girls of all ages selling cookies. Girl Scout Cookie season is here and runs through March 8th, 2020.
What I personally love about this particular program is what it teaches girls about entrepreneurship. Through the Girl Scout Cookie Program, girls learn goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics.
This year’s cookie lineup includes the following:
- Thin Mints® (vegan)
- Girl Scout S’mores™ (vegan)
- Caramel DeLites®
- Peanut Butter Patties (vegan)
- Lemonades® (vegan)
- Peanut Butter Sandwich
- Thanks-a-Lots® (vegan)
- Gluten free Caramel Chocolate Chip
Each package of Girl Scout cookies is $5.00 (Gluten-free cookies are $6.00). If you prefer not to buy cookies for yourself, you can purchase a tax-deductible Cookie Share, which donates cookies to our country’s military and local food banks. This is a very popular option and every year, more than 50,000 boxes of cookies are donated to charitable organizations across the country.
Every cookie package purchased is an investment in our future leaders and the money earned is used to power their opportunities and adventures. Together, troops decide how proceeds will be used and all revenue earned stays within the local community to support these life-changing programs.
