One of my all-time favorite Disney films is Beauty and the Beast. The animated musical film is based on the French fairy tale by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont and tells the story of a prince who is transformed into a monster as punishment for his arrogance. When a beautiful young girl named Belle happens upon the Beast’s castle in search of her missing father, she is imprisoned. It is within the castle walls that Belle befriends the enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior to see the true Prince within. The Beast must win the love of Belle before time runs out and he remains a monster forever.
Beauty and the Beast is a tale as old as time but continues to delight audiences with its engaging characters, unlikely plot and Academy Award-winning score. The film won the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture and became the first animated film to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture. Now two years in development, Beauty and the Beast will once again captivate audiences in a brand new live-action adaptation, slated for release on March 17th, 2017.
Beauty and the Beast will celebrate one of Disney’s most beloved stories when it opens in theaters this Spring. The film stars Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as The Beast, Luke Evans as Gaston, Kevin Kline as Maurice, Josh Gad as LeFou, Ewan McGregor as Lumière, and Emma Thompson as Mrs. Potts. In addition to featuring music from the original film, there will be 3 new songs written by Alan Menken and Tim Rice and a new cover of Beauty and the Beast performed by Ariana Grande and John Legend. Celine Dion and Josh Groban will perform two of the new songs written for the film.
