Baby Light and Clip – Does it Really Do That?

Posted by Caryn Bailey 1 Comment

So, being a NICU nurse I figured having 1 baby (as opposed to the 2-4 I get depending on acuity) seemed like a breeze. Boy was I wrong! The sleep deprivation alone is enough to drive anyone to insanity! Fortunately I have a husband who is understanding of my mid-day naps with Josh!

One of the hardest things we’ve had to do is cut Josh’s fingernails. My poor munchkin constantly gnaws at his hands (we think he’s teething) and rubs his eyes when he’s tired. His little razor sharp nails sometimes result in scratches on his face. So, Jason and I tried to cut his nails with a newborn nail clipper we received as a shower gift when he was awake (wrong time I know, what were we thinking?) and of course, Jason cut his little finger! It wasn’t bad but I was crying and he looked up at me, turned his lip down and started crying. I felt so bad for him. Needless to say I finally broke down and bought the Baby Light and Clip I saw advertised at one of the booths during Baby Celebration in the Spring. At the time I could not possible fathom spending 10-15 dollars on a baby nail clipper just because it had a light on it! After the said incident, i broke down and bought the safer clipper.
Before I tried it on Josh, I decided to try it on myself. My fingernails aren’t as small as his but I did manage to cut them. I “tried” to see if I could cut myself, and sadly, there is that potential. The product has builty in safety features such as safety guard and a light to illuminate the fingertip thereby allowing one to distinguish between the skin and the nail. However, despite trying several times, both my husband and I did not have success with the product. Perhaps we’re gun shy or perhaps it will work more effectively when Josh is over but for now, the Baby Light and Clip is going right back into it’s handy storage case.

Don’t even bother with a nail clipper. Use a file, instead! No cutting involved… I cried when I accidentally cut the King of Everything’s finger instead of his nail the first time…
