Confession: When I was a little girl, I used to lock myself in my room, pencil in hand, belting out the lyrics to my favorite songs. I went on to join our school and church’s choirs as a way to pursue my love for music, but life and distractions got in the way. These days, I continue to find joy in belting out the lyrics to my favorite playlists on Spotify…only now it’s in the car!
Last week, Universal Pictures released Pitch Perfect in a select number of theaters and will debut in theaters nationwide this Friday, October 5th, 2012. The film, which is aca-amazing (see my review), stars Anna Kendrick, Skylar Astin, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, and Elizabeth Banks in a lighthearted but heartwarming story that follows The Bellas, an all-girls college acapella group working to redeem themselves from a humiliating defeat. It’s been one year, and The Bellas are looking for new recruits to up their game for the finals. Beca (played by Kendrick) a college freshmen who’s real passion is to become a DJ in Los Angeles, is introduced to the group at a college fair, but initially has no interest. When her father challenges her to give college a chance before he will allow her to pursue her dreams, she decides to audition for the acapella group. Beca, who just happens to be as talented vocally as she is with musical arrangements, knows that the old school 90’s pop songs leader Aubrey (Anna Camp) has selected will never result in a national win. She challenges the group to go outside of their comfort zone with mash-ups but in doing so, creates tension within the group.
The film, which was directed by Jason Moore (Avenue Q), features an incredible soundtrack with new takes on your favorite songs and present day chart toppers, seamlessly mixed together, mashed-up, and arranged like you’ve never heard them. Here is a list of songs you’ll find on the soundtrack:
