America’s Biggest Bedtime Story Featuring Justin Bieber and Dr. Seuss *Giveaway*

Posted by Caryn Bailey 141 Comments

This giveaway is now closed Thanks for stopping by.  The winner is Rachel C. Congrats!

I thank my mother for my love of reading.  As a child, teen, and young adult, you’d often find me with a book in hand. My husband and I are aiming to instill that same passion for reading within our children.  Because I’m all about being honest, I’ll admit that lately, we have not spent as much time reading with our son as we did when he was younger.  The three days he’s in school are long and we often don’t get in those 20 minutes until right before bedtime.  We’re much better about reading with him on his days off.

I’ve recently been reminded about how vital it is for children to be read to consistently.  Children benefit from regular reading time and often have a higher vocabulary and an easier time learning to read.  Book It!, the reading incentive program sponsored by Pizza Hut, has teamed up with Justin Bieber to remind parents of the value of reading and motivate children to read.  America’s Biggest Bedtime Story will return for it’s fourth year running on February 15th, 2011.  The webcast starts at 8 am CST on the 15th and will be available online until 11:59 PM CST on the 18th.  The read-along will feature Justin Bieber reading Dr. Seuss’s The Cat In The Hat, activities, tips on how to raise a reader and the opportunity to win prizes.

Last year, 215,000 people joined the webcast.  If that record is broken, Book It! will donate $25,000 to Pencils of Promise, a global movement that partners with local communities to build schools in the developing world.

Do you read to your child for 20 minutes every day?  If not, you’re not alone. Nearly half of all American parents polled by Book It! did not have a nightly routine of reading to their children.  Fortunately, you can start the tradition with your children today.  For some incredible resources on reading with your children, just visit Book It!’s parent section.

Win It! One of you will win a PJ Pizza Party Pack including a Pizza Hut gift card, a copy of The Cat in the Hat, and Justin’s 3D purple sunglasses (how cool is that?).  Simply leave me a comment with your best tip for reading with your children.  Comments will close on February 9th at 11:59 PM PST.  US Residents only.  Duplicates and comments not including the above information will be disqualified. Comments are moderated. If you don’t see your comment in a reasonable amount of time, send me an email. Bloggers and non-bloggers may enter. If you don’t want to leave your email address, please be sure to check back for my announcement on the winner. Please note that winners must respond within 48 hours of being announced/contacted or another winner will be drawn.

Want an extra entry? Do any or all of the following and receive an extra entry for each one. Be sure to leave me a separate comment for each additional entry.

My son loves books, and I’ve been reading to him since he was a wee little one. :0) Sometimes our days can get busy, so we make it a point to always read before bedtime. It is a time for snuggles, and together time. And it is something that we look forward to doing as a family everyday.

We read all the time! I usually let them pick whatever books they want. If I have to read the same book 62 times, that’s fine. They are learning from it.

Take the time to read to your children when they want to read. Do it when they want to not when you feel like it. After all, you won’t enjoy something if you’re not in the mood so neither will they.

I got my kids their own library cards when they were little, and they have always loved choosing their own books to check out!

This reminds me of my brother who loved to read The Cat in the Hat to the children. He had a “cat in hat Hat”.

I try to pick books on subjects they like (animals, pirates, etc) and then read them VERY animatedly. Thanks.

We like to take turns reading. This helps them learn how to read and comprehend better. We all enjoy it.

One of my favorite tips is to let the kids look at the pictures after you read some and let them tell you what they think
is happening or will happen in the story. It gives them a role to play and lets them use their imagination
