A Spooktacular Time at Disneyland

Posted by Caryn Bailey 4 Comments

Once the leaves change and the weather cools, Disneyland undergoes a spooktacular transformation. Over the weekend, we got a first look at Halloween Time (which runs through October 31).  After a short presentation which included a surprise appearance by a certain villain, we were off to check out Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy, Haunted Mansion Holiday, and Tower of Terror.  Now I don’t typically go to the park on Saturdays, so I was surprised at how active the park is during this time of year.  Fortunately, we had a VIP Tour Guide and breezed through the lines (more on Disneyland’s guided tours in a future post).

I have not been on Space Mountain since my pre-parenting years and it definitely felt faster, spookier and more thrilling than I remember.   It was quite the rush and I only wish I had my husband with me more often so that I could ride it again!  Haunted Mansion Holiday is inspired by Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas and simply spectacular. It takes 2 weeks to transform the ride which features 100 jack o lanterns and 400 candles.  While I had every intention of riding Tower of Terror, I chickened out.  But the hubby went on and loved it!

Disneyland has a way of putting a magical twist on holidays and Halloween is no exception.  Some of the highlights include the giant Mickey-inspired pumpkin on Main Street, the decor on the streets and in Frontierland, and the 300 pumpkins on display in shop windows (none of which are the same). Be sure to stop by Big Thunder Ranch (because their BBQ ROCKS!) for Halloween activities. You’ll also find Halloween-themed treats and gifts throughout the park.

This year, the Disney Villains are out plotting mischief at “it’s a small world” Mall. Be sure to vote for your favorite villain (mine is Ursula!).

And remember, Mickey’s Trick or Treat Party is now going to be at Disneyland!  For more information about this special event, visit my previous post.

I love DL during the holidays! The decor is amazing!

We will be visiting in the next few weeks. I feel horrible because I keep telling Aiyana we are getting our passes again, but every time we have our visit planned, something comes up.
