Disney is such an integral part of our family. From the shows and films to the memories we’ve made at the parks, it would be impossible to name them all. One of the ways we celebrate our passion for Disney is through shared experiences with others who have that same passion. Nine years ago, the first official community for Disney fans was born. D23 was named after the year Walt Disney opened his studio in Hollywood and offers fans a way to experience the magic of Disney in meaningful ways. One of my favorite aspects of D23 is the opportunity to participate in special events.

D23: The Official Disney Fan Club
D23 is the official Disney fan club, and its name pays homage to the journey Walt Disney began in 1923 when he opened his first studio in Hollywood. Throughout the year, members have access to all-things Disney through a quarterly publication, members-only online content, exclusive discounts, and special events/VIP experiences throughout the year.
D23 Membership Levels
There are two levels of D23 Membership including General (free) and Gold (paid). There is also a Gold Family option which is explained further below:
- Gold: D23’s Gold Membership includes a quarterly publication, access to exclusive D23 events across the country for the member and a guest, discounts, early access to D23 Expo and more.
- Gold Family: This membership includes all of the benefits of the Gold membership for the member plus the option of bringing up to three guests to D23 member events.
5 Reasons to Join D23
There are so many reasons to join D23, not the least of which includes the opportunity to attend some pretty cool events! Here are my top 5 reasons to join D23!
- Exclusive VIP Events: I absolutely love going behind the scenes and getting insider information on all-things Disney. Some of the many events D23 hosts across the country for members includes The Official Walt Disney Studios Tour, screenings of upcoming Disney movies, Member Mixers, events inside Disney Parks, and more.
- Member Discounts: Who doesn’t love the opportunity to save money? D23’s curated offers include everything from discounts on Disney-adjacent hotels, restaurants, and attractions, to your favorite stores offering Disney merchandise. Some of my favorites include Sugarfina, Alex and Ani, Catal, Ghirardelli, and Ralph Brennan.
- Gold Member Gift: What is a membership without gifts? This year’s Gold Member Gift left me with a bit of nostalgia. This year, D23 celebrates Mickey Mouse. His story is told through 23 milestone mementos, reproduced under supervision by the Walt Disney Archives.
- Member Exclusives: D23 Gold Members have the opportunity to receive insider information and early event access. For example, Danny Elfman returns to the Hollywood Bowl on October 26 and 27 at 8 p.m. to perform his role of Jack Skellington for an incredible live-to-film performance of the classic, Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas, in honor of the film’s 25th anniversary. D23 members can use the code DISNEYJACK to purchase tickets during the pre-sale, September 5-7, 2018.
- Early Access and Discounts to D23 Expo: D23 Gold Members will receive exclusive pricing on tickets to D23 Expo. At present, early bird pricing is as follows: $67 for one-day tickets and $177 for three-day tickets. That is a savings of over $20 on one-day tickets and over $70 on three-day tickets. Remember that these prices are only good until November 20, 2018 when Early Bird pricing ends.
