It’s 5 pm on Friday and the busyness of the week has finally caught up with us. Even dinner out feels like too much effort. Friday nights are always family movie night in our house, complete with pizza and homemade popcorn. The squeals that ensue when I ask my kids to select their top picks from the Frontier’s Movie Room are the same ones expressed when we’re going on vacation or visiting our favorite theme park. It’s a simple family activity, but together, we’re bonding and creating lifelong memories over vegan pizza and The Jungle Book.
Hosting your own family movie night is a great way to spend quality time together and with Frontier, it’s as easy as pressing the On Demand button on your remote and selecting the movie you’d like to purchase. The selection of movies spans multiple genre and changes periodically which makes it easy to catch up on films you might have missed when they were released in theaters. If you visit Frontier online, you can see a list of movies available including upcoming titles. While there is a nominal fee, the cost is still significantly lower than a night out at your local movie theater.
Here are my best tips for the perfect family movie night!
- Decide on a theme. If you’re planning to watch Ratchet and Clank, you might consider a few gamer-themed activities, foods, and decor to enhance your family movie night.
- Select your movie. Remember the age and likes of everyone in your family and decide on a film that will appeal to everyone.
- Plan your menu. This can be as simple as warming up pizzas in the oven paired with fresh fruit and a bowl of stove top popcorn. You can also get creative and plan a menu that reflects the theme of the film you are watching. For example, if you plan to see The Jungle Book, your menu could include animal parfaits, tropical smoothies and Safari Honey Butter Cinnamon Popcorn!
- Set a time and a place. Since Family Movie Night is meant to be a shared, bonding activity, you might considering scheduling it into your family calendar. Choose a comfortable location and a time that works for everyone. If you have young children, aim to schedule an earlier movie night so they can enjoy it before bedtime.
- Consider including movie-related activities. A quick Google search of printable activities related to the film you’re watching will likely pull up coloring sheets, puzzles and even discussion points. These simple activities are a great way to encourage communication among families and open up a dialogue about the themes depicted in the film.
