It was supposed to be a vacation. Two weeks to walk the streets of Florence, eat crepes in Paris, and climb to the top of Big Ben. I’d already visited Europe three other times, and yet, my list of must-dos quickly grew. I would need weeks to get it all done. And with Europe being an entire day’s worth of travel, I wanted to make the most out of our time overseas. So I did what any twenty-something year old would do when life’s commitments are minimal…I secured a work permit and a visa, put all of my stuff in storage, and moved to Edinburgh for nearly a year. In between taking care of the infants born in the city, I saw the world through planes, trains and automobiles. And I stayed at some of the most unique places in Europe including castles, lighthouses and churches.
Nothing’s More Magical Than a Castle
Have you ever dreamed of staying in a castle? It was one of my most memorable experiences to date and made the entire visit to Scotland feel like a fairytale. While choosing a destination is likely the most important decision you’ll make when planning a vacation, where you stay can transform your experience. To celebrate Beauty and the Beast, HomeAway just launched their Castle Collection.
HomeAway specializes in vacation rentals, and as part of the Expedia family, offers vacation rental homes in 190 countries. Properties vary and include budget rentals, luxury rentals, those in the city, the mountains, and the beaches. As a mom of 2 children who often travels with extended family, I appreciate the additional space that a vacation rental home affords. Little conveniences like a kitchen and beds to accommodate each of us makes a difference when it comes to feeling relaxed and comfortable. And very often, these vacation rental homes average out to be less than the cost of a hotel.
There are over 2 million unique places available to stay, including HomeAway’s newest Castle Collection. There are more than 900 castles in 20 different countries to choose from, which can accommodate families and groups up to 120 guests. These properties include centuries old historical landmarks, lakeside estates, rustic and luxury castles, those with storied pasts and more. With so many castles to choose from, I appreciate that HomeAway put together a top 20 list which features castle vacation rental properties from seven countries around the world. Prices start at just $20 per night.
