4 Indoor Activities Kids Will Love in Winter

It just dropped below 60, and with rain in the forecast for the weekend ahead, I’m already anticipating the dreaded cabin fever. We live in Southern California specifically so that we can enjoy many of the summer activities that people in other parts of the country have to wait months for. Since a weekend indoors is unusual, I put together 4 Indoor Activities Kids Will Love in Winter.

Kids In Fort

  • Make it a game night. The selection of board games continues to expand beyond the traditional Game of Life and Monopoly. With games available for children of nearly any age, look for those that are engaging, educational, and/or physical so kids use a variety of senses and skills.

Fruit Skewer Ingredients

  • Play with your food. Kids enjoy being in the kitchen, particularly when the recipes are simple and achievable. And if you’re planning to have game night or movie night as a family, you’ll want to prepare an easy healthy snack that won’t be time-intensive. Thanks to Babybel, I decided to create Fruit Skewers with my kids’ favorite fruits (recipe below). Not only is this a healthy snack that can be made in minutes, it’s fun and engaging for kids since they feel like they are playing with their food.

Building a Fort

  1. Build a fort. The skills required to build a fort help kids think logically and creatively while giving them a sense of accomplishment. There is also the freedom, independence a fort affords kids.
  2. Make it a movie night. Whether you’re binge watching all 7 episodes of Star Wars or seeing the latest film to hit Blu-ray, movies are the perfect way to pass the time during a winter day.

Kids In Fort

To compliment our weekend indoors, I picked up several of my kids favorite fruits and layered them with Mini Babybel Cheese (which just so happen to be 100% natural and available in kid-sized servings with red-waxed-wrapped packaging) for the easiest Fruit Skewer Recipe you’ll find online. Any variety of fruit (or vegetable) can be used, however I decided to incorporate a rainbow of fruit to give the dish depth and character. Server with crackers, if desired (bonus if these skewers are served inside your kids fort).
