It’s Friday night and if I’m not decompressing from the long work week with Netflix, I’m checking out the local scene here in Orange County. I was introduced to the theater as a tween, and with new Broadways shows touring regularly at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, I often find myself checking their online calendar to catch the latest production. The shows that perform at the SCFTA are those you’d find on Broadway, making the center an acclaimed institution in Orange County.
The Book of Mormon
Four years ago, the Tony Award-winning show The Book of Mormon debuted at the SCTA. It returned to the center in 2016, and because of its overwhelming popularity, it will return for a limited, 2-week run. Combining satire and religion, The Book of Mormon was created by Trey Parker and Robert Lopez, who you might know from South Park. The story follows two Mormon missionaries as they set out to share their scriptures with the inhabitants of a remote Ugandan village. Unfortunately, the locals are more focused on the challenges their culture faces than the message from these two missionaries.
