12 Weeks Pregnant…

Posted by Caryn Bailey 8 Comments

And still sick…but getting better…and bigger.  It’s been a really rough 7 weeks.  I never imagined I’d feel so bad for so long.  Jason and my parents have been amazingly understanding and have helped out a ton with our little boy.  I’m still taking the Zofran because being off of it is just not an option at this point (I’ve tried…).  Life still carries on which means I still have to function, go to work, take care of our little boy, and our household (as much as I have been able to). Again…THANK YOU to all of you who’ve emailed, written, and generally just provided support and encouragement through these rough weeks.  Looking back this will be a blip in time, but right now it seems to be lasting way too long.

On another note, I’m excited about our ultrasound this week but I doubt that we’ll be able to find out the gender of our little baby at this early stage.  I’ll keep you posted at the end of this week!

And speaking of pregnancy…I’ve been having some serious food cravings and aversions.  I am the girl who hasn’t touched white bread in years.  Now…the though of anything with the word “whole” in front of it makes me queasy.  Is it normal to suddenly be repulsed by foods I used to love?  Strange! This is definitely a pregnancy to be documented because it’s so different from my first.

By the way, this post was definitely not meant to be profound in any way.  At 10:30, I think I’m aiming for coherent!

Sadly this is quite common in pregnancy – I had the same thing! Congratulations on the baby btw hun, not long to go, hang on in there. Have you thought about babynames yet? http://www.bounty.com/babynames/ is a great place to search as you can look by origin and meaning! I just had my first baby, a little boy called Marlow. Love the blog – I really hope things go well for you hun xxxx

I couldn’t drink orange juice when I was pregnant with Todd. It caused such abdominal pain that I almost couldn’t breathe. It was more pain than the C-Section. I also ate, every morning, a peanut butter and honey sandwich. I work with a woman who never ever drinks, can’t stand the smell of beer, yet craved beer her entire pregnancy. Her doctor told her to drink a small amount because there was something in beer her body was missing. She said she got one swallow down and that helped the cravings. Our bodies do weird stuff to us when we’re carrying a baby. But, like you said, it will be a blip on the radar. I’m looking forward to finding out if it’s a boy or a girl. 🙂

Congrats on reaching the 12-week mark. Are you going to announce the gender here…or keep it a secret? I am going to throw out a “wild guess” that it’s a girl. 🙂 But I know you’ll be “wildly” happy either way…

P.S. I definitely had a million food “aversions” for my first four months. Now, however, my appetite is back to normal. Don’t worry – things will be “normal” again. Eventually.

Sorry you are still feeling so crummy! I will hope for you that it starts to ease some.
Yes being repulsed by food you used to love is normal! I couldn’t stand raw carrots and celery for some reason! But I was fine with them afterward!

I too went the Zofran route after a month of misery (and weight loss!) It really helped reduce my nausea enough that I could eat a bit. I then got suddenly worse at the beginning of my 2nd trimester, but a few weeks later it finally started easing up. The worst part of morning sickness was not knowing how long it was going to last. One thing I discovered way too late was that chewing gum helped ease my nausea.

At 26 weeks, I still have an aversion to all foods! It’s so not fair! This is supposed to be a time when I’m allowed to eat whatever I crave! 🙁

And I can totally understand what you mean about time crawling by. Sometimes it feels like my day is at a standstill! Hope you’re feeling better soon!

I couldn’t stand the smell of raw meat, chicken, or fish throughout my pregnancy. The good thing about that was that it meant I didn’t cook dinner much! So glad you’re starting to feel better!
