Every year, my children receive at least one Easter basket and likely two or three. The baskets vary and might be plastic and already filled or wood/wicker filled with items that have been hand-selected. The problem with receiving even one basket a year is that they add up...and then retire to their storage place never to be looked at again.
This year I endeavore... Read More »

You might have noticed that Rockin' Mama is getting a bit crafty! I'm definitely more analytical by nature, but lately I've been tapping into my creative side, mostly because of my kids. If I had an abundance of time, I'd take a variety of classes to continue exploring my passions for food, photography, and travel.

A winter storm and a child under the weather...what's a mom to do? After a batch of gluten-free, vegan chocolate chip cookies, a stack of books, and a little bit of Dora, we decided to get our craft on. I really shouldn't complain, since other parts of the country experience a lot worse with regards to weather, and I'm in awe of how those moms keep their children ... Read More »

Even at 2, my daughter spends quite a bit of time coloring quietly...thoughtfully. While she can't express what she's drawing, when she's finished a picture, she runs to me bubbling with excitement...proud of her creation. It was much later that my son showe... Read More »

Since Halloween falls on a Monday this year, there is an entire weekend available for crafting, baking, decorating, and celebrating. I love to bake and I'm probably better at it than I am at cooking, but sometimes I need a little inspiration when it comes to decorating. Disney Family and Family Fun are my go-to resources, particularly when I want to create something ... Read More »

Since Halloween falls on a Monday this year, both of my children's school parties will be held during the day which means I'll be busy this weekend working on something creative to bring in. I love peeking at Celebrate With Hershey each season for inspiration on recipes and crafts. Like these Pumpkin Favor Pouches which would make an awesome "thank you" gift. Here... Read More »

This giveaway is now closed. Congrats to our winner, Clarissa!
After a very warm weekend here in the Southland, it looks like we'll get our first rain of the season this week. Once the seasons begin to change, I always think about those days when we're stuck at home due to illness or the weather and what I can do with the kids to keep them from going stir crazy. Th... I love when my daughter runs up to me with a piece of paper in her hand, motioning for me to get her the box of crayons stored on our bookshelf. Both of my children enjoy coloring, but my husband and I agree that our daughter is the artistic, creative one. We wouldn't be surprised if she took it up as a hobby as she gets older because she colors much more than my ... Read More »

We have a busy weekend ahead filled with brunches, birthday parties, and a host of Easter celebrations. Since food is such an integral part of Easter traditions and celebrations, I thought I'd share some of my favorite chocolate-themed recipes from the company that knows a thing or two about chocolate.
Each season, the Hershey Company offers new products and a ho... Read More »

I get excited about finding new things to do with my children. Last week, I told you about Lowe's free Build and Grow Clinics, the latest which is planned for this Saturday, March 12th. The Home Depot also offers workshops, the theme of which is Build. Learn. Create. Once a month, children and parents can visit their local store to create projects including tool... Read More »

Over the weekend, my son attended a Seussian storytime in celebration of the late author's birthday. It was unseasonably cold in LA and an indoor activity was just what he needed. As he sat amongst all of the boys and girls eager to hear Dr. Seuss' rhyming stories, we noticed several children with race cars. They had just come from one of Lowe's Build and Grow C... Read More »

One of our favorite indoor activities is crafting. I'm definitely not Martha Stewart, but with a little direction, my son and I have made everything from stockings to birdhouses. The holidays are the perfect time to get crafty. My son absolutely adores his toys...but I also think it's important to expose ... Read More »

Technology has advanced the world of video gaming such that children can learn how to count, teens can rock out on a real guitar, and adults can improve physical fitness. My son hasn't been exposed to much in the way of gaming. The games he has played were designed to be educational.
Last week, Disney Interactive Studios, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment,... Read More »

It's on rainy days like today, that I wish I had a little more creativity in me...that I could come up with something more inspirational than baking oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and reading a book about mountain goats to my 3 year old. When I am stumped for ideas, I head on over to Disney Family to glean wisdom on everything from how to prepare meals for my picky to... Read More »

As I raise my two beautiful babies...I can't help but think back to my own childhood. I grew up as an only child, so I spent a lot of time with my mom baking, playing with dolls and games, and doing "projects." Every year we'd decorate Easter eggs (I'd of course have to go find them too!). While my parents always emphasized the real meaning of Easter, I still re... Read More »

It's supposed to be a beautiful week here in Southern California so I don't think the kiddos and I will be spending too much time indoors. But if you're still feeling the effects of winter and you're looking for some fun indoor activities, check out Disney FamilyFun! They offer St. Patrick's Day-themed crafts...here are a few that I spotted...

One of my favorite things to do is bake. My husband always encourages me to go bake when I'm feeling stressed. I like using my creativity to make something that looks and tastes good. And my son is quickly becoming the little baker himself. He is my right hand when it comes to making pancakes, muffins, scones, and cupcakes.

I fully admit that I'm not the most creative gal on the block. I tend to think I'm left-brain dominant, which explains my inability to draw pictures of Dora or Thomas for my son.
