From the moment the bright red box with the lively parrot and colorful ring-shaped cereal appeared in our home, my kids were begging me for a bowl...or even just a taste! Cereal is a staple in our household, but traditionally my kids have only eaten varieties such as Rice Krispies. I actually grew up eating Froot Loops as a child so I completely understood my chil... Having set absolutely no resolutions this year, I feel the weight of those things I want to "right" in 2013. My husband can attest to the fact that I struggle with organization, so while I haven't set any formal plans, I'm slowly tackling some small projects that will hopefully equate to big improvements in how I organize our lives.
In my never-ending attempt to ... Read More »

For the last few days, we've mostly stayed in since we've had some rain. As much as my kids enjoy the opportunity to watch television or play video games, I realize that at some point, they'll tire of these activities in search of something more.
Crafts and baking projects are our favorite ways to spend time together indoors. Snce we're less than 1 month from Chr... Read More »

My son is at this incredible age where he is quite attune to things like season changes, holidays, and perspective in time. Once we celebrated Thanksgiving, he started talking about Christmas...how he wants to help Daddy put up a tree and see his home decorated with lights.
If you're looking for an easy, affordable way to add some festive holiday cheer to your home... Read More »

Confession: I have never carved a pumpkin. {Gasp}
It wasn't until I was sitting outside, arms deep inside the pumpkin we had picked up, that I realized this was the very first time I was going at this alone. Growing up, my father carved while I watched. Sometimes I'd even help him scrape out the seeds and such. When we carried the pumpkin carving tradition into o... Read More »

The pumpkin is decorated, our costumes have been broken in, we've got the perfect spooky drink, and we're almost ready for Halloween! The only thing missing is our treats...or at least a place to put them. This year, I've been aspiring to do more crafts with our kids, and thanks to Walmart's Kids Craft section, it's easy to recreate fun, simple projects.

Organization is my weakness, and since we're about to become parents to a school-aged child, I've been brainstorming ways to ensure that important information does not get missed. Too often, we'll set the mail, work/school documents, and other important papers on the table, only to get "lost" in the shuffle. Nowhere in our home do we have a central location where this... Now that summer is in full swing, I'm racking my brain to find ways to keep my kids active and engaged. We try to spend as much time exploring and doing, but on days like today, when temperatures were well over 90 degrees, all I really want to do is stay cool inside the comfort of our home. Over the past few months I've been delving into crafting with the kids, an... Read More »

Because my kids share a room at present, it's difficult to choose a theme that works well for both a preschool boy and a toddler girl. My son won't have pink or princesses in his room, and my daughter won't have anything to do with cars or items that aren't pretty and feminine. My challenge is to help inspire a room that's fun and creative for both of them.

Every year, my children receive at least one Easter basket and likely two or three. The baskets vary and might be plastic and already filled or wood/wicker filled with items that have been hand-selected. The problem with receiving even one basket a year is that they add up...and then retire to their storage place never to be looked at again.
This year I endeavore... Read More »

You might have noticed that Rockin' Mama is getting a bit crafty! I'm definitely more analytical by nature, but lately I've been tapping into my creative side, mostly because of my kids. If I had an abundance of time, I'd take a variety of classes to continue exploring my passions for food, photography, and travel.

A winter storm and a child under the weather...what's a mom to do? After a batch of gluten-free, vegan chocolate chip cookies, a stack of books, and a little bit of Dora, we decided to get our craft on. I really shouldn't complain, since other parts of the country experience a lot worse with regards to weather, and I'm in awe of how those moms keep their children ... Read More »

Even at 2, my daughter spends quite a bit of time coloring quietly...thoughtfully. While she can't express what she's drawing, when she's finished a picture, she runs to me bubbling with excitement...proud of her creation. It was much later that my son showe... Read More »

Since Halloween falls on a Monday this year, there is an entire weekend available for crafting, baking, decorating, and celebrating. I love to bake and I'm probably better at it than I am at cooking, but sometimes I need a little inspiration when it comes to decorating. Disney Family and Family Fun are my go-to resources, particularly when I want to create something ... Read More »

Since Halloween falls on a Monday this year, both of my children's school parties will be held during the day which means I'll be busy this weekend working on something creative to bring in. I love peeking at Celebrate With Hershey each season for inspiration on recipes and crafts. Like these Pumpkin Favor Pouches which would make an awesome "thank you" gift. Here... Read More »

After a very warm weekend here in the Southland, it looks like we'll get our first rain of the season this week. Once the seasons begin to change, I always think about those days when we're stuck at home due to illness or the weather and what I can do with the kids to keep them from going stir crazy. Th... I love when my daughter runs up to me with a piece of paper in her hand, motioning for me to get her the box of crayons stored on our bookshelf. Both of my children enjoy coloring, but my husband and I agree that our daughter is the artistic, creative one. We wouldn't be surprised if she took it up as a hobby as she gets older because she colors much more than my ... Read More »

We have a busy weekend ahead filled with brunches, birthday parties, and a host of Easter celebrations.
