As a member of Mom Central, I get some really neat opportunities…like testing out appliances and promoting amazing shows! It’s been a long time since I’ve been to the circus. I really only have a vague recollection of elephants and clowns under a big tent. Last night, all 3 4 of us went to Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey’s Zing Zang Zoom. What is truly unique about this show is the element of magic that is weaved into it. Combining traditional circus acts with outstanding illusions, the performance constantly had me asking my husband, “How did they DO that?” Now I’m not talking about the disappearance and reappearance of coins (although we DID get a fun little pre-show entertainment with Zingmaster Alex Ramon). I’m talking about the disappearance of a ginormous elephant and an entire act performed upside down.
We started the evening with a party hosted by Mom Central. I got an opportunity to finally meet Cathi from The Way I See It Too (and the Family Review Network) and Julie and reconnect with Tanyetta (who has the most adorable and well behaved brand new baby girl). The kids LOVED watching Alex (we’re on a first-name basis now) perform some of his illusions and taking pictures with some of the stars!
After some traditional circus food (because you absolutely cannot go to the circus without getting a pretzel), we headed down to the arena for the pre-show performance. If you’re going to the circus, you don’t want to miss this. One hour before the show, you have an opportunity to witness some amazing acts, up close and personal. And the kids will LOVE it! My son really enjoyed trying on some of the clothes the performers wear and standing on a huge ball! The best part is that the pre-show is free so come early!
This show is nothing like I remember the circus to be. Yes…there are animals and circus acts and live music. But there is also so much more. My two year old sat through the entire first act (which lasted until about 8:40 pm…way past his bedtime) and some of the second act before passing out in daddy’s arms from exhaustion. He absolutely loved seeing the dogs do their hilarious tricks and the sheer exquisiteness of four-ton elephants twirl and “dance” with such grace. I was on the edge of my seat during the tiger act. How in the world a man can be in a cage with that many tigers is beyond me. But it truly was a sight to see…he had such control.
I was absolutely captivated by the high wire act. As if it weren’t difficult enough to walk across a rope wire at that height…the performers take this act to another level. When they carried the gal across the wire on a bike, I thought that was the climax of the act. Oh no…not in this performance. Take a look at some of the pics I attempted to capture:
Overall, the circus was phenomenal. The performers were talented and professional. The animals were graceful and awe-inspiring. This is not the circus I remember as a child. It’s so much better.
Hurry! The circus is only in town for a limited time. And if you use the code “MOM” when you order tickets, you’ll receive the special price of $44 for a four-pack (that’s just $11 a ticket!).
