Wreck-It Ralph DVD Features Exclusive Bonus Content Including the Animated Short Paperman

Posted by Caryn Bailey Leave a Comment

As part of our commitment to spend quality family time together, we’ve been enjoying weekend movie nights.  As simple as it is for us to pop our own popcorn, order vegan pizza, and sit down together for a family favorite, my children get incredibly excited about this time together.  Very often we will peruse On Demand for films we never made it into theaters to see.  But sometimes, we’ll pull one of our favorites off the shelf, like Wreck-It Ralph, which has become a cherished film in our family.

Wreck-It Ralph DVD

We are actually a bit selective about the DVDs we purchase because we want to own those films that we’ll enjoy watching over and over again. When I learned that Wreck-It Ralph was to be released on DVD, I knew my children would be elated about being able to watch their new favorite film for years to come. During the Academy Awards this year, we cheered as the film won the Annie Award for Best Animated Feature, a distinction that was well-deserved.

Filled with incredible heart, humor, and adventure, Wreck-It Ralph tells the story of Ralph, the token “bad guy” in the popular 8-bit video game Fix-It Felix, Jr. Tired of being the “wrecker,” Ralph sets out on an incredible journey towards heroism.  Traveling from game to game within the arcade, Ralph eventually befriends Vanellope von Schweetz, a feisty “glitch” in her game Sugar Rush, whom he befriends and helps him learn what it really means to be a hero.

Apart from the fact that the film is phenomenal (just ask my children who have watched it at least 7 times since we received it), the Blu-ray Combo Pack offers a ton of exciting bonus material including the following:

  • Disney Intermission: The Gamer’s Guide to “Wreck-It-Ralph” – This is probably one of the coolest features we’ve yet to see.  Pause the film and Chris Hardwick appears on-screen to guide you through 10 video segments offering an inside look at the video game references and hidden surprises within the film.  Check out this fun clip on the Hidden Mickeys within the film (who knew?).

Paperman

  • Paperman – One of the most beautiful shorts to date debuted before Wreck-It Ralph when it was in theaters.  It came as no surprise that the short won an Academy Award this year, and now you can view it in its entirety with the Combo Pack.

  • Bit by Bit: Creating the Worlds of “Wreck-It Ralph” – Last year, I had the pleasure of attending a press junket to learn all about the challenges and incredible detail that went into creating the five, very different, gaming worlds featured in the film.  During this feature, the artists will take  you into those worlds and detail how they were brought to life.
  • Alternate & Deleted Scenes – Who doesn’t love learning about what didn’t make it into the film? Perhaps you’ll see one of these four scenes (or something similar) in the Ralph’s next adventure? Director Rich Moore is also featured in this clip.

Wreck-It Ralph is now available on HD Digital, HD Digital 3D, Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, DVD, and SD Digital.

No compensation was received for this post. A copy of the film was provided which helped facilitate the writing of this post.
