As I sat down at Antonello in Costa Mesa for their exclusive Hello Kitty Menu, I began speaking to a woman who had traveled from Northern California for the occasion. Her dinner was just the beginning of a weekend immersed in all-things Hello Kitty. She was even dressed for the occasion, affirming the fact that it was perfectly acceptable for me to be a Hello Kitty fan girl despite my age. Heck, if they make Hello Kitty wine, this cute little character must be for adults, too!
The popular Zagat-rated Italian Restaurant is serving up an exclusive Hello Kitty Menu complete with beet-infused bowtie pasta a flourless Hello Kitty chocolate cake, and 3 different selections from the Hello Kitty Wine Collection. The 4-course, prix-fixed menu was designed in partnership with Sanrio to showcase the new Hello Kitty Wine Collection. Reasonably priced, the inspired meal is satiating with a perfect fusion of flavors and Hello Kitty touches.
I started with a delightful basket of assorted breads and the first course, Insalata D’Anguria. This refreshing salad features Hello Kitty-shaped watermelon drizzled with olive oil and fig balsamic, microgreens, honey, and feta cheese. The dish is then topped with a white chocolate Hello Kitty bow!
My favorite of the 4 courses was the Farfalle Alfredo. Antonello serves their beet-infused “bowtie” pasta in a decadent Alfredo sauce. The dish is creamy and flavorful despite its simplicity.
The main course, Manzo Brasato, is a hearty dish of braised boneless beef short ribs served over saffron risotto. If you adhere to a special diet, be sure to alert the restaurant when securing your reservation and Antonello will readily accommodate. I opted for their salmon which was paired with the risotto.
Be sure to save room for dessert, a rich Hello Kitty-shaped Flourless chocolate cake topped with dark chocolate semifreddo. And be sure you pair it with a delicious Hello Kitty wine.
You can enjoy the Hello Kitty menu – including Hello Kitty wine – exclusively at Antonello Ristorante through January 2017. The cost is $35.95 per person which is very reasonable. You definitely won’t be hungry!
Be sure to pair your meal with one of 3 Hello Kitty Wines. You can choose from a sparkling brut, a sparkling rose, or the limited edition “Pink Sweet”. Bottles can be purchased at Antonello as gifts or to enjoy at home.
