Every summer our cozy family of three went to our local county fair. My father and I would ride the Ferris Wheel and eat cotton candy and my mom and I would browse through the gorgeous handmade items for sale. There aren’t a ton of traditions that I’ve carried over into my own family, but the Orange County Fair is one of them. Each year we actually count down until opening day (which just so happens to be this Friday, July 12th!)
The theme of this year’s fair is “Come & Get It” and will bring back those things that are familiar including the All-Alaskan Pig Races and favorite carnival rides. One of the things I personally enjoy about the fair is the fact that despite its familiarity, there is always something new. This year families will enjoy Dr. Entomo’s Palace of Exotic Wonders and Summer in the Cities, a selection of local entertainment, exhibits and discounts celebrating Orange County.
We’re headed to the fair this weekend and next week, I’ll be back with a family guide to give you the inside scoop on what to expect this year at the OC Fair. If you’re heading to the fair this weekend, here are some things you’ll want to know:
Guests who visit during opening hour (Noon to 1 PM) on Friday, July 12th will receive free parking and admission. Additionally, Seniors over the age of 60 will enjoy a special admission price of $6 plus a free Ferris wheel and merry-go-round pass to ride all day. Fairgoers heading out on Friday will also have the opportunity to sample fair food, ride and/or play games until 4 pm for just $2.
Colbie Caillat will headline the Toyota Summer Concert Series on Friday, but be sure to check out the entire entertainment schedule on their website.
