Walmart’s Empowering Women Together Will Support and Create Jobs For Women Around the World

When I was younger, I shopped without giving a thought to where the items I was purchasing were made.  It wasn’t until I became a mom and became very interested in where those items were sourced, that I realized how important it is to support small businesses.

Walmart just announced a new online shopping destination that will help support small, women-owned businesses around the world.  As part of Walmart’s commitment to Global Women’s Economic Empowerment, Empowering Women Together will offer more than 200 items from 19 businesses in nine different countries.  With each purchase of these unique products, you and I will have a hand in empowering the women who make these products to create new jobs and improve the lives of their family and their community.

When you visit Empowering Women Together, you’ll find apparel, accessories, jewelry, photo cards, books, items for the home, food, and more. Additionally, you can shop US products that will benefit women here in our country.

The very fact that women from countries like Rwanda, Nepal, and Peru have the opportunity to present their handcrafted items to the US through Walmart is impressive.  For example, two women and friends from Nepal founded Friends Handicrafts in order to provide economic opportunity to women in their country.  They use felting to create necklaces, bags, scarves, and children’s gifts.  Through their small business, these two women have been able to employ over 100 female artisans and provide access to education for their children.  This is just one of the many stories you’ll find detailing how these extraordinary women are making a difference when you visit Empowering Women Together.

How can you help?  Simply shop the site. By making a purchase at Empowering Women Together,  you’ll help the women who create these items and grow this initiative, thereby creating more opportunities for women to participate.
