Shopping for friends and family is one of my favorite things to do during the Holiday season. I anticipate the excitement on my kids’ faces when they run downstairs Christmas morning to tear open the presents under the tree. Surprising a friend with something she really wanted or needed but would have never bought for herself warms my heart. It’s easy to “get it right,” when my kids write out detailed Wish Lists or friends/family hint at items they’d really enjoy. But sometimes I struggle with shopping for those who are closest to me, particularly when I’ve been purchasing gifts for them for years and I’ve run out of ideas. I also find it very difficult to shop for my daughter since her birthday occurs within one week of Christmas and I want her to feel like each celebration is unique and special. Apple iPad Mini 2 16GB WiF ($289.99): In previous years, it would be unheard of to be able to purchase a tablet (particularly an Apple branded tablet) under $500. Lightweight, wifi-enabled, and loaded with popular apps like iPhoto, iMovie, and Keynote, this sleek, fast tablet is competitively priced for just $289.99 at Walmart. Tip: Purchase a case (I like the OtterBox Defender Series for rugged protection) to go along with this gift.
FitBit Flex Wireless Activity Sleep Band ($94.99): As we head into the new year, fitness and health will be on the forefront of our minds. More than just a step counter, this compact, sleek device is the motivation you need to get active every single day so you can achieve your fitness and weight loss goals. I particularly like that it tracks my sleep cycle and I’ve been studying it to see how I can improve the quality and duration of my sleep. You can read my entire review here.

Disney Frozen Snow Glow Elsa Doll ($28.88): As popular as Disney’s film Frozen was last year, I could never anticipate how much girls like my daughter would continue to be captivated by this inspirational story to 2 sisters set amongst a Norwegian backdrop. What’s even more interesting is how popular Elsa is and how she has risen as a favorite among little girls (including my daughter). This doll, inspired by Elsa’s character from the film, says 15 phrases with the touch of her magical snowflake necklace and sings her infamous song “Let It Go.” Her necklace and dress also light up and she comes with her favorite sidekick, Olaf!
Zoomer Interactive Dino ($79.88): If your kids are begging you for a pet but you’re not ready for the time, effort, and responsibility involved with a furry friend, toys inspired by animals are all the rage this year. This innovative, engaging toy features real dinosaur movements, sounds, and sense abilities and can be “tamed” with the controller provided or your hand. Taylor by Taylor Swift Fragrance Gift Set ($19.88): Admittedly, when I’ve run out of ideas I usually resort to gift sets because they’re nearly always packaged beautifully and arranged with items I may not have thought about. This year, there are at least 3 other beauty/fragrance gift sets that made Walmart’s Top 100 Gifts List, speaking to the popularity of these items. This particular set features a fragrance inspired by Swift’s personality, a body lotion, and a bonus celebrity photo filter and celebrity audio.
For the Home
KitchenAid Classic 4.5-Qt Stand Mixer ($199.99): I’m a collector of kitchen gadgets, and just last week, I had a friend tell me how unique my kitchen items are! I can be very practical when it comes to gifts and would probably opt for an appliance over jewelry in most instances, particularly if it was something I needed. I’ve had my KitchenAid Stand Mixer for over 10 years and it still works as well as it did on the day I purchased it, which speaks to it’s durability. I can use it for all kinds of dishes and it is my go-to when I need to beat eggs, prepare home-made whipped cream, or pizza dough.
Dyson DC33 Multi-Floor Bagless Vacuum ($299): The appliance that gets the most use in our home is my vacuum. It’s one of the items I actually spent quite a bit of time researching and opted for a higher priced model to ensure it would hold up considering how much I knew I would use it. I have an earlier Dyson model that has been keeping our carpets and couches clean for years and I can attest to the quality of it’s construction. This particular model cleans carpet, tile, vinyl and wood making it the only vacuum you’ll need for your home. Plus, it’s bagless technology means you don’t have to spend extra money or hassle dealing with bags.
