LEGO’s and Disney Princesses…that is what my husband and I have in store for the coming holiday season. My children have been very specific about their Christmas wishes, which in some ways, makes it quite easy for us. However, we likely won’t get away with one LEGO set and a doll. Christmas is a very special holiday for us, not only because we get to gift our children with things they’ve been eying at our local toy store, but more importantly because we get to spend time together as a family. Gift-giving is an important part of our celebrations. When I was a child, I remember the year my father went from store to store, in search of a highly coveted Cabbage Patch Doll. What I remember about that year was the effort and great lengths my father went to in order to gift me with a doll I had been longing for.
If your child a. knows what he/she wants or b. is still undecided, I recommend checking out Walmart’s list of top toys which was JUST released! While it may seem early to be talking about the Holiday season, these toys will likely sell out so it makes sense to at least think about whether or not your child has his/her eye on one of them. After looking over the list, I’d like to share my personal picks for the holiday season (in no particular order)!
1. LeapFrog LeapPad2 Explorer Learning Tablet
We absolutely love our first generation learning tablet which offers children an educational way to play, listen to music, watch videos and more.
2. Holiday Barbie Doll (2012)
One of my favorite childhood memories is the hours my mother and I spent engaging in pretend play with my Barbie dolls. I’m not surprised that they are still a favorite among little girls. This year, Mattel released a new Holiday Doll dressed in a beautiful red strapless gown complete with a red petticoat, red tulle, and a brocade fabric.
We live in an age where technology is ever-present, thus children are exposed to and begin playing with devices like smart phones and tablets early on. iTikes is a new line of interactive toys developed by Little Tikes. This map offers children an interactive way to learn about the world and makes use of Apple devices.
4. Fisher-Price Little People Disney Princess Songs Palace Play Set
Because I grew up with Disney Princesses, the little girl inside me is thrilled that my daughter wants to dress up and pretend to be a princess. This particular Little People set is designed for younger tots and has an interactive component. When a child places a figure on a special location, it will recognize the princess and respond with her name, phrases, and a song from her film.
5. Hot Wheels Terrain Twister Radio-Controlled Vehicle
For the little boy who wants to take his love of cars to the next level comes a radio-controlled vehicle which can traverse across a number of terrains including snow, water, dirt, and grass.
6. Furby
Have you heard? Furby, the must-have toy of the 90’s is back! Now available in 10 new colors, Furby interacts and learns from your behavior to develop it’s personality. They’ve even created a free app to help you brush up on your FURBISH!
7. Fisher-Price Imaginext Eagle Talon Castle Play Set
This particular play set, geared towards boys, features sound effects, activation discs, and figures to bring the art of pretend play up a notch.
I participate in the Walmart Moms program and am compensated for my time and honest opinions.

We just saw the Leap Pad 2 at our local Walmart the other day. I’m sure my preschool son would absolutely LOVE getting that item for Christmas. Although, the castle would be great, too.
