Over the weekend, the buzz at the Box Office was Disney’s latest creative take on L.Frank Baum’s novels about the land of Oz. Oz the Great and Powerful was a favorite amongst audiences as they immersed themselves in Sam Raimi’s 3D film which explores the beginnings of the great wizard.
While the story focuses on Oscar Diggs’ journey towards greatness, there are prominent characters he meets along the way that motivate and inspire him to save the people of Oz from the wicked witch.
One such character is China Girl, a 14-inch little girl made of porcelain. Shelby, Tee, and I had an opportunity to chat with Joey King, the 13 year old actress who plays a dual role in the film.
Best known for her role as Ramona in Ramona and Beezus, King displays her talent and versatility as she voices the CG character of China Girl and plays a wheelchair-bound little girl in Kansas who makes an impossible request of Diggs. During our interview, King talked about her experience working on the film, what it was like to play two different characters, what it means to be in a Disney film, and how she found her “voice” for the film.
Oz the Great and Powerful is in theaters now!
