We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.
― Winston S. Churchill
One of the greatest lessons my parents taught me was to give continually and regularly. Whether it was time or resources, this simple act of kindness taught me to be compassionate and grateful, with the broader lens that life is much more than the “stuff” we have in our homes. As with most life lessons, generosity is something that is best acquired when it is modeled for children at an early age and incorporated regularly into their lives. Which is why we give of our time and our resources regularly and have frequent conversations about generosity and the intrinsic benefits reaped from this state of our hearts.
One easy way for us to give back is to donate items in our home we have outgrown or simply don’t use. Regularly, my kids are asked to go through their toys and books to find items they can give to children who may be less fortunate than they are. My standard is high and my expectation is that they would give quality, working toys with lots of life left in them, something that can be difficult for my kids. We are blessed to have the things we have and not only is it important for my kids to understand that, but to bestow some of our blessings upon someone else.
Charity…it’s the theme FiOS SoCal has launched their 2015 campaign with and it resonates deeply with us. With the launch of the 2015 Verizon FiOS SoCal Experience, the brand will connect you to the charity you care most about by offering one winner the opportunity to receive a $1,000 contribution to the charity of their choice. Entering is simple and includes registering and then uploading a photo to Instagram or Twitter (with the hashtag #FiOSConnectsSoCal) which illustrates how Verizon FiOS can connect you to your favorite local charity.
Verizon FiOS has been a leader in the area of giving and through their FiOS SoCal Experience, has donated $122,500 in grants to local charities. Additionally, Verizon employees have volunteered over 1300 hours within local charities. This year, Verizon FiOS will continue to donate time and resources to local charities through tech-based educational program, green building initiatives and other activities to empower community organizations including the Boys & Girls Club, local food banks, and Habitat For Humanity.
Verizon FiOS launched their 2015 SoCal Experience campaign by visiting the Boys & Girls Club of Pomona Valley to provide $2,500 in technology upgrades to the on-site tech room, provided a $2500 grant to purchase video equipment, and hosted an educational tutorial on filmmaking. I personally love hearing how Verizon FiOS is making a difference on a community level in my home city.
If you’ve yet to experience the innovative technology and lighting speed, you’ll want to check out one of the FiOS SoCal Experience Events being hosted across the Southland.
