This giveaway is now closed. Thanks for stopping by. The winner is Dana. Congrats!!!

We’re about a week from Valentine’s Day!  Do you know how you’ll celebrate that loved one in your life?  I love getting flowers and candy, but I tend to be very practical when it comes to gifts I’d like to receive.  I tend to opt for gifts with lasting value if I’m asked for suggestions.

If you’re still in search for the perfect gift this month, why not get that special person something they’ll use every single day?  I’ve come to rely on my smartphone for everything from organization and social networking to multimedia and information gathering.

You might remember me sharing some information about how my husband and I use our Windows Phone to stay organized and connected.  But there is truly so much more that we can do with the smart phone.  Here are just a few Valentine’s Day-inspired features that make a Windows Phone a unique gift idea for a loved one this month and might just make it a bit easier to plan the perfect day.

Need a Valentine’s Day card in a flash? This photo app will allow you to select from one of 40 romantic Valentine Card templates that can be personalized with photos and messages.

Looking to plan the perfect date? Check out this app which offers over 100 unique ideas for celebrating with that special person in your life.

If you’re planning to celebrate with a fancy meal, be sure to make reservations ahead of time on OpenTable to minimize wait times.

Looking to round out date night with the latest film? Check out Flixster for the latest trailers and reviews.

Win It!  I have a VERY QUICK giveaway but it was too awesome not to share so get your entries in quickly!  One of you will win the following:

Two Samsung Focus Flash Windows Phones

1 month of service

His and hers SkinIts

To win, simply tell me your best Valentine’s Day story!  Comments will close on Friday, February 10th at 8 am PST and I’ll need the winner’s address that day!

My best story? I usually sing for our chorus as the guys go out as barbershop quartets. Being a barbershop chorus, we have a fair number of gentlemen in their 60’s. My quartet was made up mainly of those gentleman and me bring in the mid-30’s crowd. We had finished most of our assignments and received permission to deliver our last singing valentine at the recipient’s house. We showed up, rang the doorbell and were greeted by an older woman who was quite reluctant to open the door or acknowledge that she was the woman we sought. She just saw 4 men in tuxes, either close to her age or close to the build of Chris Farley. She didn’t want to open the door for us to deliver our surprise, but her daughter opened it and let us in. As the recipient walked away, I heard her muttering to her daughter that she “didn’t want those strange men in her house, taking off their clothes.”

Obviously, she didn’t know that I’d heard her, but I almost lost it and couldn’t get the image of Chris Farley on SNL doing his Chippendale routine. I also couldn’t imagine what sort of life she’d led that she thought her kids would order her such a surprise, nor why she’d ever thing we would be qualified to do such a routine. She brightened up when she realized we were with the Vocal Majority chorus, saying that she loved their music and really enjoyed the singing valentine. While we’ve touched hearts, caused many women to blush, and made people’s days singing to people on Valentines Day, that one woman is still my fondest memory just because it was the strangest and funniest response I’ve ever had when delivering a Valentine.

(I know this doesn’t fit the “romantic” Valentine’s Day stories, but hopefully it makes someone’s day a little better.)

Well, my wonderful husband and I had our first date on Valentine’s Day 37 years ago. I was waiting and waiting for him to ask me, because I did have someone else who had, and he finally did! We had such a special time, that of course, we ended up getting married. We had a triple date and the both couples were already engaged. One never got married and the other one we beat by getting married the week before them!
Lovely phone. I have none so this would be wonderful!

My best was when hubby and I spent it in Vegas. We saw the Blue Man Group then went out to a very nice and romantic dinner, followed by soaking in the hot tub with some champagne.

I don’t celebrate valentine’s day because it seems like a holiday that makes a lot of people very sad and lonely – my husband considers himself very lucky that he doesn’t have to worry about valentines gifts. We did go hiking around valentines day last year and there was s now in the mountains….. it was very beautiful.

A couple of years ago, with money being tight, my husband with my two sons surprised me with a nice Valentines Day. They had been collecting copper for a year or two and right before valentines day, when I would be away from home, they would work on stripping the copper wires and cleaning it up. They then went and sold the copper at a savage yard. With the money they received, they purchased steak, a cake, flowers and candy for me for Valentines Day. They made a wonderful dinner and surprised me when I came home from work. I was so touched, especially since I that my sons, who were then 9 and 12, were saving the copper to get money for themselves.

He took me to dinner and told me that My worst day spent with him would be better than any of my best days with my ex… He gave me a Tiffany Bracelet that says I Love You all around it that I still wear to this day and he told me that If for a Moment I forgot that I was loved that all I had to do was look down and see it on my wrist each day…..It was the first time he told me he loved me.. I Married that Man!!! and have been Loving and Smiling Ever Since!!!!

My best Valentines day ever will be this year. My husband and I got married young – it is what you would call a “shotgun wedding.” We have been miserable with each other for years. Sadly, after that first year I “grew up” and he continued down a dangerous and discouraged path of drugs and alcohol, rarely holding a job and just being a miserable human being. In the past six years he has turned his life completely around, with the most encouraging changes happening over the past year (including committing his life to his religion of choice). I am so happy and proud of him and will be glad to celebrate this Valentines’ day in a truly loving marriage. Our anniversary is also two days’ after Valentines day and we hope to renew our vows on our childrens’ spring break… a few weeks after Valentines’ day… but a month long celebration, regardless!

We don’t really do anything special for Valentine’s day usually. But the first Valentine’s Day that my husband worked 2nd shift -2PM to 2AM, he came home with a beautiful arrangement of flowers for me. He had stopped at a 24 hr. store to get them for me because he knew I was having a hard time adjusting to him not being home at night with me. I thought it was very sweet.

We really don’t do much for Valentine’s Day in the traditional sense of the holiday. We have two daughters so I have my husband focus on them first. After all, he is the man in their lives that they can always count on. So, he brings home chocolates and stuffed animals for them. And then we have a nice family dinner. It makes for a much less commercial, fuss free day.

Perhaps our most memorable one was our first with our daughter. We wanted to go out but didn’t want to leave her. We usually just make a nice dinner at home and have a yummy dessert. Probably my most memorable Valentine would be the year my daughter was born. I was craving Italian Food so we went out for it three nights in a row including Valentines Day. She was born Feb 16, so I call her my Valentine baby. She also loves Italian Food. 🙂

My best v-day experience was attending my parents ceremony to renew their wedding vows. I hope I am that lucky to be married that long and still be so in love.

When my Husband & I had been dating for about 9 months, he surprised me with a weekend Valentine’s Day trip. It was a 3 hour drive to the middle of nowhere, in the middle of Michigan. He rented an amazing cabin that was isolated in the woods & everywhere you looked was untouched snow, streams, & trees-just beautiful. The cabin was really nice & it slept 18!! But, it was just the two of us. No TV’s so we played board games, danced, & found other ways to occupy our time;) It is where i really felt a change in our relationship. I knew he was the one for me! We married two years later! The BEST Valentine’s Day EVER for me. So special & memorable!

My wife and I had been dating for about 7 months ,and I wanted to REALLY suprise her for our first Valentine’s Day. We were living in St. Augustine at the time. I had spoken with a friend of mine and he had arranged for me to be able to use a horse and a suit of armor from the re-enactments. They helped me get dressed up and I went to the hair salon where she worked. When a customer opened the door, I rode the horse right into the salon and approached her station. With quite a bit of trouble, I dismounted and lifted the faceplate ,letting her know it was me. I then presented her with flowers saying “Your knight in shining armor would like you to join him for lunch ” All the ladies in the salon were crying of cheering.Later that evening she had asked me to marry her ! That was the best Valentine’s day in my life !

What I have planned for this year: My husband has to work all day, so I am going to set the mood, put candles all over, roses and petals, etc all over the house and turn off all the lights. Going to make his favorite meal (I make a special marinate for pork chops that he loves), eat in candle light. Going to rent some new movies he hasn’t seen, take a walk around our neighborhood (if it isn’t to cold anyway), then later I’m going to “go to the bathroom” put on this gorgeous lingerie and well let you imagination go with it 🙂 Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

My husband proposed to me on Valentine’s Day, by following a fabulous dinner with a gift of beautifully decorated chocolates that spelled out “Will You Marry Me?” So it would be hard for us to top that, but I enjoy a low-key evening together, as long as we have the chance to share our feelings for one another. I don’t need big gifts or grand gestures, just need his love!

We don’t do anything special on Valentines, but we have two little kids under 3 years old, we like to make a family dinner – I make everything from scratch and make an out of the ordinary meal. So much easier to enjoy when you’re not at a restaurant with little ones! Plus we can’t afford dining out anyway.

Well I thought that I wasn’t getting anything, when my girlfriend came home with roses! I was so happy she wrote a beautiful card.. She then gave me a bag that had a purple dress special for me to put on for her… Also in the the bag was a bottle of malibu rum. She took the bottle and made me a wonderful drink. She then freaked me out by saying there was a bug on my drink and when I looked down there was a Diamond ring sunk down to the bottom of the glass. I cried and laughed, I was so happy. Since we have been together I haven’t been able to give her or surprise her with something special and useful the way she did for me…

We went out to this local restaurant that was not fancy but had good food and never busy. We needed reservations and we never dreamt they took reservations. Did get a little table in the back and never saw the place so busy and decorated.

It was our first vday together as a married couple and we hit all the usual vday traditions – dinner, flowers, chocolates, jewelry, etc. We both tried so hard to make it perfect.

My best Valentine’s was when the guy of my dreams sent me a dozen red long stem roses and wrote on the card that he loves me. I had waited for him to say that.

Last Valentine’s Day was the most memorable to date. I had the most mouthwatering steak I’ve ever eaten cooked for me, I can taste it now! Simple, heartfelt gestures mean much more to me than a mass-produced, commercialized card/stuffed animal/box of candy. I’m hoping for another delectable meal this V-Day, YUM!

My best Valentine’s Day story is the Valentine’s he gave me my ring. We had been dating for about two years and had had nice Valentine’s together. I was hoping he was Mr. Right but I was was beginning to wonder about his intentions. On Valentine’s he gave me chocolates and took me out to dinner. At the evening he gave me my ring. He always surprise me. He kept his intentions clear. This year we will celebrate our twenty year anniversary.

My best Valentines day ever was simply but the best. I came home from work and my husband had the house spotless, all the laundry done, dinner on table and the kids all taken care of. He told me to relax and enjoy the rest of the day. Best Valentines day I could ask for.

My favorite Valentine’s day was when my husband surprised me at the office with a bouquet of flowers. Valentine’s day falls during a very busy time for me at work when I am generally stuck at the office for long hours. It was really nice to be able to see him in person that day.

I’ve not done anything special on V-day other than make cookies or cupcakes. V-day is just another day, I try to show my love for others everyday.

My boyfriend and I were both in college and struggling financially. We weren’t going to do anything for Valentines due to money. So I went to his apartment and when I walked in he had a balloon bouquet and had cooked me dinner. It was so sweet and unexpected. That is when I realized it doesn’t matter what you do on Valentine’s it is who you are with and how much they care about you. I will never forget that Valentines.
