It’s going to be a beautiful weekend in Southern California and spending a day at the aquarium seems like a fun and educational option. This Saturday, Sea Life Aquarium presents it’s third annual Underwater Parks Day, where children will learn about Marine Protected Areas through hands-on activities, such as a personalized habitat build, a Happy Habitat Mural and a Conservation Expo.
Marine Protected Areas are a critical tool for replenishing the fish populations and restoring the health of coastal waters. Underwater Parks Day is designed to provide education on how we can care for our oceans locally. The Daily Dive Show, debuting at 11 am, features a diver using an underwater communication mask to offer a child-friendly presentation on special ares from inside the Lost City of Atlantis. Local ocean conservation organizations such as San Diego Coastkeeper, I Love A Clean San Diego, San Diego Oceans Foundation and Agua Hedionda Lagoon Foundation will take part in the mini Conservation Expo by hosting information booths and other activities throughout the day. Local artist Teresa Espaniola will also be highlighted for her work in creating the Happy Habitat Mural.
Underwater Parks Day will be held at Sea Life Carlsbad Aquarium from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
