When I first purchased my iPhone, I vowed not to let my children near it, for a variety of reasons, mostly though to keep them from breaking it. I’ve since invested in a variety of cases, in the hopes of avoiding a catastrophe. My kids’ favorite though, is the soft, bear-shaped case developed by Infantino. The reputable baby brand, known for their smartly-designed products, recently developed HappiTaps Beary Happi, an adorably interactive virtual friend! Combining a classic soft toy with technology, Beary Happi offers snuggly fun while protecting your device.
If you were to look at my screen today, you’d find that kid’s apps prevail. Because my son is still rather young, I am careful to monitor his screen time. However, I’m finding that there are a number of educational, interactive apps that my son enjoys and that I feel comfortable allowing him to engage with. Beary Happi is a free app, available for the iPhone and iPod Touch that when combined with the HappiTaps cover, brings this new friend to life.
As soon as we downloaded the app, both of my children were captivated by this adorable bear. He counts and sings, tells knock-knock jokes and stories, eats and sleeps, and offers an endless amount of interactive fun. One of the things I find interesting about the app is the fact that it utilizes 3D computer animation and Apple’s technology to create an interactive friend that reacts to a child’s life moments. Beary Happi (who by the way is truly always happy), has the potential to keep kids learning and engaged with over 150 expressions. Two modes are offered, including a toddler mode that is most appropriate for my almost 2 year old daughter because she isn’t as savvy with navigating through the activities. My 4 year old son picked up the manual mode easily and is able to select from the 7 games and activities.
The cover, which is sold online for $19.99, offers protection from small tots who may drop the device and features a lock over the home button so kids don’t wander outside of the app. I will say that my four year old can get around this because he’s always looking to figure things out like this.
While the app is free, there are some items within it that can be purchased including additional songs, stories, and the nighttime mode (each which costs $0.99).
The app is recommended for children ages 18 months and over and I think that is truly an ideal age. Both of my children enjoy it, albeit in different ways. For more information, just visit HappiTaps.
I wrote this review while participating in a campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Infantino HappiTaps and received a product sample to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate
