‘Tis The Season To Be Baking: Auntie Anne’s At-Home Baking Kit

Posted by Caryn Bailey 1 Comment

One of my favorite past-times is baking…which should definitely not be confused with cooking…which I only do out of obligation.  Pizza is one of those foods that crosses the baking/cooking line. Fortunately, I enjoy pizza so much, that I don’t mind making one from scratch. Typically, I’ll buy a crust at the store, make my own pizza sauce, and complete it with my toppings of choice. However, I’ve yet to find a crust that mirrors that which you’d find at an authentic Italian pizzeria.

I was recently sent Auntie Anne’s At-Home Baking Kit.  If you’re not familiar with Auntie Anne’s, they make and sell pretzels in locations across the country (they’re typically housed in shopping malls).  Now, you can make and enjoy their pretzels at home.  When I received the kit, I decided to branch out a bit and follow their recipe for Deep Dish Pizza.

Everything you need to make the crust is included in the kit which includes Auntie Anne’s dough mix, yeast, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon sugar.

Key ingredients in the kit are a yeast packet, special at-home baking Auntie Anne’s dough mix, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon sugar.  I simply mixed the yeast with water as directed, combined that mixture with the dough mix, and let it rise for 30 minutes.  It was quick and easy.

Once it rose, I placed it on a pizza pan, added the pizza sauce I made (canned tomatoes, garlic, onion, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper) and adorned it with toppings.

The result was the softest, thickest pizza crust I’ve tasted in a long time (which is exactly how I like it).  Despite the fact that the dough is marketed for making pretzels, it didn’t taste like a pretzel at all.  It had a slightly sweet flavor with a light airy texture that made me want to eat the entire pizza!

Each kit makes 10 pretzels or one (very large) deep dish pizza. The At-Home Baking Kit is available for purchase at Auntie Anne’s locations and select retailers nationwide.
