One of my favorite ways to pamper myself is with a blowout, if only for the small reprieve it affords me. I straighten my hair nearly every single day, and as you can imagine, the time it takes to get it sleek and frizz-free is extensive. Over the years, I’ve tried too many products to count along with a number of techniques recommended by stylists. Nearly every stylist who’s offered advice wholeheartedly agrees that the ability to straighten curly hair begins with the right product.
This week, I’m testing out Schwarzkopf’s Satin Frizz Control & Protect Heat Protection Straightening Cream and what immediately compelled me to try the product is the fact that it was developed specifically for uncontrolled, frizzy hair. If you’ve ever seen my curly hair au natural, you’ll agree that this product was designed for me!
The best way to apply products designed to assist with straightening is when your hair is damp. I like to quickly towel-dry my hair to remove moisture and then work the product in from the roots to the ends. With a professional product, you can blow dry hair straight using a round brush. I actually prefer this technique over a flat iron because the blow dryer allows me to incorporate some body, a flip or even loose curls, as opposed to a more stick-straight style.
You’ll want to start by applying just a quarter-sized amount of product and add more if necessary. This is a weightless, greaseless product but too much (as is the case with any product) will definitely weigh hair down. Once my hair is dry, I like to take about a tiny amount (less than a dime size) and use it to tame any frizz that wasn’t smoothed with the blow dryer.
Along with nourishing hair, this product offers heat protection, ideal for people like myself who regularly straighten their hair. If you straighten your hair regularly, you’ll want to try to go a day or two in between to afford you hair a break from the heat. If you blow dry or flat iron your hair regularly, failure to use the right product can often result in split ends, dryness, and noticeable heat damage. Schwarzkopf’s Satin Frizz Control & Protect Heat Protection Straightening Cream was designed to help prolong your blowout and conditions/enriches hair so that it’s shiny and moisturized.
Straight hair tips for curly-haired girls:
- Blow dry whenever possible if you prefer a sleek look with some body
- Always use professional hair care products
- Apply product to damp, towel-dried hair
- Begin by applying a small amount of product to avoid greasy, weighed-down hair
- Using the nozzle on your blowdryer, begin drying in sections using a comb (you can then go over specific sections, add curls, etc. with a round brush)
- Always dry and straighten hair from the root to the tip
- Use the lowest heat setting possible to achieve results
- Only use a flat iron when needed
- Finish with a small amount of product and/or an illuminating oil elixir like Schwarzkopf’s Diamond Color & Radiance Oil Elixir for a sleek, shiny look
- Give your hair a break. I like to try to extend my blowouts for at least 2-3 days.
