The Wizard of Oz Debuts at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts + Pre-Show Activities

Danielle Wade as Dorothy

Perhaps one of my favorite classic stories follows Dorothy on her journey through the magical land of Oz.  There have been a number of film and stage adaptations of the beloved novel written by L. Frank Baum, each unique and enchanting in their own way. But I’m perhaps most intrigued by Andrew Lloyd Webber’s production ,which was completely reconceived for the stage by the creative team that revived The Sound of Music.  Featuring timeless classic songs, your favorite characters, and epochal moments, expect a brilliant production with unexpected surprises and new songs from Webber and Tim Rice.

In this brand new production, join Dorothy, Toto, Scarecrow, and Tin Man as they head over the rainbow, down the yellow brick road and through Oz to meet the Wizard and achieve their hearts desires. This is Baum’s authentic story, brought to life on-stage and an imaginative way for families to experience this classic in a new way.

The Wizard of Oz will debut at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts on February 11th, 2014 and run through the 23rd. Single ticket prices begin at just $29 and include the following pre-show activities:

  • The Yellow Brick Road to Oz: Guests can write down on paper made bricks what they would ask the great and powerful Wizard if they had the courage and the chance.
  • Mark where you call home on the single, vast There’s No Place Like Home map.
  • Learn about the fierce and destructive windstorms that carried Dorothy’s house away at the Tornado Demo.
  • Take a photo at the Iconic Yellow Brick Road. Be sure to post photos on your social media sites and use the hashtag #WizardOC.
  • Browse the Fun Facts Display containing trivia about all things THE WIZARD OF OZ – including the original books, previous stage productions, and the immortalized 1939 classic film.

The Wizard of Oz

Families who want to take their children to see The Wizard of Oz should plan to attend Kids’ Night on Broadway February 12th and 13th, 2014. Along with additional pre-show activities, each adult who purchases a full-priced ticket will receive a child’s admission for free (ages 5-18)!  Be sure to use the promo code KNOB.

Are you going to see the show? I’m thinking about taking Kayla when it comes to Tucson this spring.
