Not too long ago, I did a potty training series, filled with tips, interviews, and reviews to help you through the transition out of diapers.  We are still in the process of potty training our son who is about to turn 2.  He definitely knows when he needs a diaper change (he tells us) and doesn’t mind sitting on the potty.  The only problem is that we have yet to successfully go diaper free.  We’re in pull-ups but he still needs some help getting them up and down (and I have to give him some grace since he’s 2!).

Huggies, the makers of Pull-Ups, launched The Potty Project to provide a resource for potty training. Here is a little more information about the site:

The site features a series of reality-style webisodes following six families with one common goal: saying goodbye to diapers.  The site offers parents interactive communities to share and learn and helpful information to answer all their potty training questions.

logo_pullupsPotty training is hard!  It’s right up there with sleep training and breastfeeding.  The Potty Project features real-life potty-training experiences shared through videos and blogs.  It’s funny and insightful and very well put together.  I appreciate the range of topics covered.  They even have sections for working parents and grandparents.  I’ll be receiving a Potty Training Starter Kit, courtesy of Huggies and Pull-Ups so I’ll be sure to update you with our success progress!

  3. What a great website for a resource! We are jumping on the Potty train here at my house too. One article I enjoyed was called Your Road Map to Success, I really like this tip:
    “I’m not a believer in the philosophy that you must get your child to be potty trained by a certain date and time,” Schneider says. “Too much pressure! Having a good approach, however, can make a big difference – especially if you begin to introduce your children to idea of learning to use the potty in many different ways.”

  15. Ok, so I checked out the site, watched a few videos and read a few blogs and tips. I really can’t pinpoint something I enjoyed or learned, I feel like I know everything about Potty Training except how to get my daughter to actually do it, lol. The chidlren in the videos are just like her, especially Alexa, she sits there, knows what to do there, but waits until she has privacy and a comfortable position to go. Agh! I’ve tried the regular Pull-Ups before but yesterday I bought the Cool Alert ones, hopefully they will help. Yesterday when I put one on her, she did #2 and not #1 so I had to change it without seeing how she would react to the “cool alert”. She insisted on a diaper instead of a Pull-Up after that so I still haven’t been able to see if it works for her. I’m on a mission to try again today though. Going to read more tips on the site and see if there is anything I missed, I sure do hope so!

  18. this was a very resourceful site. I learned that you should Steer clear of worrying about hard and fast deadlines. Avoid getting caught up in milestone-mania. Learn to recognize old-school advice as just that. While you might still find people who say, “trained by 2—or you’re in for trouble…” nothing could be further from the truth!

  32. I really like the tools section where you can search by topic and have videos and aricles related to that topic. That is very handy.
    And the article about tuning into your child’s learning style, it make sense that each child learns differently and we need to adapt how we teach our children to be most effective.

  35. Great website- I’m going to be starting potty training soon- and have the feeling that I’m going to need all the help I can get!

    From the website I learned some of the signs of readiness-such as staying dry for two hours and being uncomfortable with a dirty diaper. My son is just barely showing any of these, so it might be a while longer for us, after all!

  42. Great site with lots of articles, resources, and tips. The Success Tip Cards are neat and I learned that you should let your child take time and learn about flushing because it can spook your child at first.

  59. What a wonderful site! This is such a helpful site that has all the answers. What I found most interesting is the section “The Signs of Readiness”. What a help this section is to me. I think that my little guy is almost ready!

  61. I found this useful when looking at signs if you’re child is ready to go potty or not: “Your child can stay dry for two hours at a time during the day or is dry after a nap.”

  69. I could relate to the Brandon video because my now 4 year old really didn’t get it until he was almost 3 and a half. It is hard being the last one in pullups, but he just showed no interest in really doing it until then despite all the efforts to try to get him to us the potty. Now my youngest just turned 2 and wants to start, he is all interest because he sees his big brother using the potty. I think having an older sibling pave the way helps a lot with the interest of the child to get it done.

    Here are some more signs that your child is ready to begin potty training, courtesy of the AAP:

    •Your child stays dry at least two hours at a time during the day or is dry after naps.
    •Bowel movements become regular and predictable.
    •Facial expressions, posture or words reveal that your child is about to urinate or have a bowel movement.
    •Your child can follow simple instructions.
    •Your child can walk to and from the bathroom and help undress herself.
    •Your child seems uncomfortable with soiled diapers and wants to be changed.
    •Your child asks to use the toilet or potty chair.
    •Your child asks to wear grown-up underwear.

  78. I like Brandon’s video. The train idea is a really neat one, and the little boy looked really interested in it. As an aside, the mom looks a bit like Reese Weatherspoon. I bet she’s heard that a bunch. This video makes me inspired to keep working hard with my son on potty training. He’s only 21-months, but I am very lazy about it. I intend to step that up a bit.

  98. Our son has Autism & has very limited speech. He learned to go to the potty by giving us a picture of a boy using the potty & also uses pictures as reminders to flush, wash hands, ect.

I could have spent well over an hour there, and I only wish this website had been around when I was trying to potty train my son but at least I can use this valuable site to help me with my daughter and my baby when she is old enough! I really liked the article “Tuning in to Your Child’s Learning Style”. I found this full of great tips that can really help you in understanding your child’s prevailing learning styles in the potty training department and it can go a long way in helping you adapt life lessons as your child discovers and grows.   180. Potty training is a right of passage for new parents. It’s a huge family accomplishment. (for both Parents and Child). Enjoy the one on one time.. reading, talking, clapping & rewarding. Check the impatience at the bathroom door. These tips are very interesting even to this mother of 4 and grandmother of 2.
