In less than one week, the back-to-school routine begins again, only this time, we’ll have a double dose of homework, sports, and extracurricular activities. Despite the fact that summers are often spent on local adventures and travel, I still prefer the freedom of being unconstrained by schedules. During the school year, I often feel like I’m on autopilot with an often rushed morning routine, a full day of work, an afternoon of sports, scouts or swim, homework, and bedtime, repeated 5 days a week for at least 3 months straight. Throw in an evening work event or a much-needed mom’s night out and it’s almost enough to tip the balance. With little time for wardrobe changes throughout the day, today I’m sharing the perfect day-to-night look under $50 for moms-on-the-go.
Since Summer temperatures will continue to soar through October, you’ll often find this mom sporting her favorite jeans, a tank and flip flops. This particular outfit is comfortable and suitable for nearly every occasion and can be adapted for LA work meetings, soccer practice and even a night out in Newport checking out the local culinary scene.
The key to making jeans work for nearly every occasion is to opt for darker shades of denim. I own several pairs of Faded Glory’s Straight Leg Jeans in various washes, but my favorite is their Dark Tint Tulip Wash for day-to-night looks. Slim through the hip and thigh, these jeans sit midrise at the waist, thereby accentuating your natural figure. The straight leg ensures comfort and movement and the ability to wear heels or boots fashionably. Normally priced at just under $15, I found them on rollback for just $7!
You have to live in Southern California to grasp the concept of wearing tank tops through early winter. As we transition from Summer to Fall, our days will be uncomfortably warm with evening temperatures often dipping into the 60s. So while I’ll wear a tank top throughout the day, I always carry a sweater with me that I can easily throw on for comfort and style. Faded Glory’s Basic Camis are my new favorite tank. They’re available in 10 different colors, provide excellent coverage and can be layered for a seamless look. At just $1.68, I stocked up on these since they’re regularly priced at $2.97.
To transition from day-to-night, I picked up a gorgeous Stitch Cardigan in Violet Mulberry from Faded Glory. Featuring a trendy stitch pattern, this lightweight cardigan will transform your basic tank or top into a look suitable for a date night or girls’ night out. Paired with heels or boots and dark denim, this look completely embodies SoCal style.
Anytime I want to dress up jeans, I simply put on a pair of heels or a pair of boots. I personally prefer boots unless the occasion is particularly upscale. Last year, I purchased Faded Glory’s Slouch High Heel Boots and they are still my favorite! But a new season calls for a new pair of boots so I headed to my local Walmart’s shoe section and found a comfy Knee High Leather Slouch Boot that works for both casual days out or evenings in the city. The heel on these boots is smaller than I would normally pick out but I honestly could not pass up on the price (just $19.97) and the comfort! After a long day juggling work and my kids’ school schedule, it’s nice to wear shoes that look nice but are easy on your feet.
I’ve never been extravagant when it comes to jewelry which is why I am always perusing Walmart’s accessory section in search of affordable accent pieces. Layered necklaces are trending this Fall so I picked up a set of 3 sliver chains which includes a snake chain, a beaded snake chain and a cable chain. Because the necklaces are unattached, you can wear them alone or together like I did to complete my day-t0-night look.
Day-to-night looks are ideal for women who don’t necessarily have time for a complete wardrobe change before an evening out. I suggest packing a small day bag with makeup essentials for touch-ups, body spray/deodorant, a brush and your favorite hair styling product to easily freshen up your look before your night out.
